Chapter 406: Poisonous Herbs
Floating down onto the ground again after having reached the ceiling and pushing herself gently downwards, Qing Yi cautiously tried moving around under the effect of the Cloud Cover Potion her master had made.
For the next five minutes, Qing Yi curiously tried floating around inside the alchemy room, while also trying to understand just how such poisonous spiritual herbs had ended up having such a unique effect…
“Ahh!”
After five minutes had passed, the effect of the Cloud Cover Potion conveniently ended while she was floating close to the ceiling of the alchemy room, causing Qing Yi to suddenly fall from a few meters in the air and onto a table filled with several different things beneath her.
Crash~
Landing on top of the table, Qing Yi manged to destroy a few empty glass vials and potion bottles without injuring herself in the process of landing on top of the table.
“T-the effect ran out faster than I expected…”
Hurriedly getting down from the table, Qing Yi quickly proceeded to clean up the mess of broken glass that she had ended up creating with her sudden landing.
“I will take care of it.” Standing by the side, Xuan Hao did not plan to wait for Qing Yi to clean up, as he quickly waved his hand, causing a small wind to pass through the room and take care of the mess Qing Yi had created.
“Thank you, master…”
Not knowing what to say as her master had cleaned up the mess she had made, Qing Yi decided to just thank him before turning her attention towards gathering the different spiritual herbs needed for the Cloud Cover Potion located around the alchemy room.
Placing all of them on a table beside an unused cauldron that her master had found for her during the time she was floating around the room.
Having gathered all the things required to make the Cloud Cover Potion, Qing Yi turned her attention back towards her master.
“Do you have any questions before starting?” Seeing Qing Yi stare up at him, Xuan Hao immediately knew the reason why as Qing Yi soon nodded her head.
“Yes! I’m not too sure how you prepared the poisonous spiritual plants used in the Cloud Cover Potion and I’m still not certain about the exact order that I will be adding in the different spiritual herbs to the cauldron…” Not holding back in the slightest after hearing what her master said, Qing Yi asked about the things that she had been worried about when it came to making the Cloud Cover Potion.
Not to mention the fact that she had never really dealt with any poisonous spiritual plant when making potions or pills before, Qing Yi was not sure about exactly what order she would be adding in the different spiritual herbs!
Even if she had seen her master do it already, she had not really focused too much on the order that the spiritual herbs had been added into the cauldron and the recipe given by her master had only mentioned what spiritual herbs were used! Not the order that they would be added into the cauldron!
“Hm… I will teach you how to handle the poisonous spiritual herbs used for the Cloud Cover Potion and how to prepare them. Luckily most poisonous spiritual herbs or roots in this case, are prepared in mostly the same way, so you should be able to apply what you learn from handling these few poisonous spiritual herbs to any you may encounter in the future!
For the order that the different spiritual herbs will be added into the cauldron, I purposefully left out. You will have to figure it out by yourself! Though, I will give you a little help. The stronger and more powerful herbs will go in first, while the weaker will go in last!”
Hearing what her master said, Qing Yi first felt excited upon hearing that he would teach her how to handle and prepare poisonous spiritual herbs, but began feeling a bit afraid upon hearing that she would have to figure out the order of the different spiritual herbs by herself…
“Let’s start with the weaker poisonous spiritual herbs and slowly move our way up towards the Death Willow Root… What do you say Qing Yi?”
“I’m ready master!”
Ignoring Qing Yi who was still in the process of trying to figure out the order that she would be adding in the different spiritual herbs to the cauldron, Xuan Hao interrupted her state of mind and quickly brought her back to the matter of the poisonous spiritual herbs.
Over the next few hours, Xuan Hao slowly taught Qing Yi how to prepare the four different poisonous spiritual herbs for use in alchemy. Making sure that she knew what do, so she wouldn’t accidently end up poisoning herself in the future.
After having gained a lot of knowledge on different poisonous spiritual herbs through the system when he had become an Artisan Alchemist, Xuan Hao found out how truly terrifying some poisonous spiritual herbs were.
Among the Soul Grade Poisonous Spiritual Herbs that he had learned about through this knowledge, there were even a few that had the potential to infect the soul and possibly kill someone in the Domain Lord Realm!
Therefore, it was important that Qing Yi learned how to properly prepare and handle poisonous spiritual herbs before she began using them in the future.
Avoiding poisonous spiritual herbs was easy at the start, but from what Xuan Hao had learned after reading through the recipes stored inside the sect and the going over the recipes he had learned from the system. Poisonous spiritual herbs would end up becoming one of the main ingredients used throughout almost all potions and pills!
…
“Finished!”
Smiling happily as she looked down on eight small piles of now prepared spiritual herbs, Qing Yi felt a bit proud when she looked over the four piles that belonged to the four poisonous spiritual herbs that the Cloud Cover Potion needed.
“Now all you have to do is figure out when the different spiritual herbs are going in.”
Feeling her smile suddenly disappear when she heard those words from her master, Qing Yi could not help but look over at him with a slightly wronged expression on her face.
Did he really have to mention that already!? At least let her pat herself on the back for a bit before moving on to the next step!
“Haha, no need to look at me like that, you still have to make the Cloud Cover Potion!” Laughing a bit upon seeing the wronged expression on Qing Yi’s face, Xuan Hao showed no mercy as he said this.
“I know…” Muttering this in a low voice, Qing Yi began looking over the eight different spiritual herbs she had prepared.
Her master said that the more powerful spiritual herbs should go in first, while the weaker ones would go in last…
Thinking along this line of thought, Qing Yi quickly managed to divide the herbs into four different piles. Each containing two different spiritual herbs of the same grade.
Six Mortal Grade Herbs, with a pair of two belonging to the lower, middle and peak of the Mortal Grade.
The last pair contained two Earth Grade Spiritual Herbs. One of which was the poisonous Death Willow Root!
“S-should I add them in like this?” Feeling a bit nervous as she looked down at the spiritual herbs divided into four different pairs, Qing Yi looked back over at Xuan Hao. Hoping that she would have correctly divided the spiritual herbs up.
“Yes, that’s great! Do you know why each of the poisonous spiritual herbs are paired up with another spiritual herb?”
“Because it neutrali-! It neutralizes the poisonous nature of the poisonous spiritual herbs!” Listening to what her master said, Qing Yi quickly realized why the spiritual herbs would go into the cauldron at the same time!
Even if she still struggled to understand how these spiritual herbs would end up producing such a weird effect like the one the Cloud Cover Potion had. At least she had begun to understand that it had something to do with the poisonous spiritual herbs poison being neutralized, or at least that was what she believed was happening…
“Correct, I think you should be more than ready to try making a Cloud Cover Potion by now!” Observing how Qing Yi excitedly looked at him and the different neatly prepared spiritual herbs on the table, Xuan Hao stepped to the side and allowed for his disciple to begin.
Hearing the encouraging words from her master after, Qing Yi no longer felt as confused about the Cloud Cover Potion as she had at the beginning.
Instead, she began feeling confident. Confident in the fact that she would be able to make a Cloud Cover Potion herself!
Whoosh!
Beginning the process of adding in the first pair of spiritual herbs to the cauldron, Qing Yi began the most important step in the process of making any potion. The mixing process where the different spiritual herbs were blended together into a single mixture that would then end up becoming the Cloud Cover Potion!

spend way too long on this chapter due to my newfound hate for the word “gotten”. No idea why I don’t like the word, but now it’s no longer inside this chapter…

Hope all of you enjoyed the chapter, a bit different than normal, as it is a teaching Qing Yi chapter.

Please do comment if you have any advice for these kind of chapters that will focus on Xuan Hao teaching his disciples. Teaching subjects will of course differ from alchemy, to cultivation, to other professions that Xuan Hao will pick up in the future.
