Chapter 734: The monster
“And if I choose to admit defeat are you going to spare her life?” The old man asked. He didn’t seem afraid of death himself but he cared about the eel-like beast.
“Yes, I will, so just give me your answer or I’m going to attack,” Jayden said in an impatient tone.
“Then I’ll admit defeat,” the old man said. Then, jumping off the beast, he stood in front of Jayden, leaving his sword behind. With a firm expression, he added, “But before going any further, please kill me, that’s my only request.”
“..”
Jayden looked into his eyes and went through his memories. The old man showed no resistance, otherwise, Jayden might have gotten hurt with mental energy.
This old man was the right-hand man of the previous king and the strongest warrior that the king had.
He was the only one who had the strength to stop Malgor in his early stages, but at that time Malgor played tricks in such a manner that left this strong warrior completely helpless and grieved.
Before killing the king, Malgor brutally murdered the wife of the old man and kidnapped his daughter.
When he arrived at his home, the old man was devastated to find the lifeless body of his wife lying in such bad condition. She went through a lot of pain before death finally embraced her.
He tried looking for his young daughter everywhere, but she was nowhere to be found, and while he was in that state, Malgor killed the king and took over the entire beast tribe.
There was no way for this man to fight an entire army alone and only later did he find out that Malgor was the one who murdered his wife and kidnapped his daughter.
After that point, he had to work for Malgor. He stayed in this prison for several decades and just hoped his daughter was alive.
His beast is just like his daughter to him, so he couldn’t allow her to die. Letting Jayden pass meant the death of his daughter, so he chose his own death.
After looking through all those memories, Jayden spoke:
“This place needs at least one strong warrior. Your daughter is alive. I’ll help you save her so you can live.”
“Huh?!!” The old man looked at Jayden in shock. He thought Jayden was going to kill him with a mental attack just now, so he didn’t resist. But his surprise only increased as his words finally sank in.
“H- How do you know that? Just who are you? Is she really alive?” The old man asked almost in a choking voice. He looked as if he was about to kneel in front of Jayden.
“Yes, she is, so just wait here for me,” Jayden spoke. He had just used the Fate skill on this man. Then he turned towards the cells and began to walk away.
Leaving the old man standing there in shock, tears rolled down his face that he had held in for years. His beast finally woke up hearing his cries.
The old man hugged the eel and loudly began to cry, shouting the name of his daughter again and again, even though he was not sure if Jayden was speaking the truth or not, but he still wanted to hold onto even a single thread of hope.
As Jayden walked forward, he noticed that the cells were only present to his right and not a single one was present on his left side.
Through the walls, he could sense that a large number of explosives had been placed that would be enough to blow the prison, the people inside, and even many of the houses around into smithereens.
Each prison cell here was given to only one person. As he walked forward, Jayden saw people of different races and strengths hanging against the wall. A lot of protective things were placed around so that they would at least be heavily injured if they even tried to escape.
The first cell that he saw had a very old man who was probably a vampire. There was barely any flesh over his body and several wounds could be seen over his body.
Jayden continued to walk forward and saw many others. After walking for a few minutes, he arrived in front of a cell he was looking for.
A man who seemed to be in his thirties was lying in there. There weren’t any wounds on his body and it seemed he was being fed well here.
His treatment was completely different from the others so far. He was currently sleeping without a care in the world. His long black hair was lying carelessly around him, and he had a youthful appearance despite being way too old.
“This is Bael,” Anna mumbled, as she curiously waited for Jayden to do something. After looking at him for a few seconds, Jayden turned and continued to walk forward and just looked at each cell.
“Wait, weren’t we here for Bael? Just tell me what you are thinking, this is so frustrating,” Anna said in an annoyed tone.
“It is, right?” He replied and didn’t say anything further. There were all kinds of people kept in these prisons, but he was not interested in any of them.
After a while, he arrived in front of the cell which was constantly producing growling noises. Jayden stopped in front of it and looked inside.
A beast with the body structure of a human, his whole body red and countless wounds all over it, was chained inside the cell. He kept releasing loud roars as he tried to free himself, but it was impossible for him.
“Who is he?” Anna asked curiously.
“It’s Caleb,” Jayden answered as he gazed at that beast.
“Caleb? Oh, that’s him?” Anna pondered and then she finally remembered Caleb.
When Bael sent that divine beast to kill Jayden, it had thrown Jayden’s consciousness into a dream.
And at that time, Jayden had seen an extremely brutal dream in which a man named Caleb had turned into a flesh-eating monster. Then he killed his own wife and brother and the entire village, then he became Bael’s servant.
“Yes, it’s him,” Jayden replied as some unpleasant memories came back to his mind. At one point, he felt that he might also turn into something similar, but in the end, he was able to stay sane.
“But why were you looking for him? Oh gosh, you aren’t going to answer it either, are you?” Anna sighed and then she decided to just stay silent and watch.
Jayden stepped towards the cell, and seeing him, Caleb’s struggles got even more violent, as if he wanted to devour him.
Extending his hand, Jayden placed it on the metallic door of the cell. A strange kind of energy instantly began to attack him, pushing him away, but ignoring it, Jayden just pulled the entire door and then threw it away.
He walked inside and stood right in front of Caleb, who was waving his hands violently. The sound of chains clinking and ringing in the silent prison.
