Chapter 735: Memories
“…” Jayden just looked into his eyes, as an invisible force pushed Caleb’s body against the wall.
He was unable to move his arms or legs no matter how much he tried. Jayden wanted to know if there was still even a little bit of his original consciousness present there.
Taking in a deep breath, he focused his own consciousness completely on Caleb’s mind, going through every part of his memories, his thoughts, his hunger. Whatever he felt, Jayden was feeling all of it himself.
It was quite dangerous because of his low mental strength which again and again proved itself to be his biggest weakness, but Jayden delved deeper and deeper into Caleb’s past.
He felt an intense headache as the blood thirst and uncontrollable hunger took over his mind which threatened to turn him into something similar to Caleb, but Jayden had already gone through that phase and Demonic Devouring Arts had trained him enough so he was able to stand that.
Jayden went through everything that Caleb had done after becoming a monster. He saw all the people he had killed, how he tore their bodies apart, how he devoured them all.
He was in a state of constant hunger. His strength increased by a lot after turning into this monster, but he lost everything else. More than minutes had passed, Jayden and Caleb both were standing completely still.
Caleb’s growls and roars had stopped as if he was asleep, even sleep was something that Caleb hadn’t been able to experience properly in so many years.
Jayden kept finding that one thing, anything that could possibly bring back his emotions strong enough to overcome the hunger. His own face was covered with sweat by now, and he was already feeling a severe headache.
But after going through countless memories and every part of his being, Jayden finally found a small part of his emotions that was hidden very deep inside his mind.
It was filled with the memories of Caleb’s wife, his brother, and his unborn child who died that day along with his mother.
There was rage, sadness, loneliness, and many such emotions embedded in that small part of his memory. It was almost as if Lucian could himself feel the loss Caleb was feeling, his sadness. It was devastating.
No one could stay sane after going through something like that, even though he was not able to control his own body at that time. But he still must have felt every bit of it. Just that had broken him completely.
Concentrating on those particular emotions, Jayden made Caleb go through that pain again and again. He made him feel those emotions but with increased intensity.
All of a sudden, Caleb began to release even louder screams as if he was going through a lot of pain. His eyes looked bloodshot and his head began to hurt uncontrollably. The entire prison cell was filled with his screams.
All the other prisoners woke up by this sound. They were used to Caleb’s roars by now, but he was never this loud.
They all wondered if he was going through some kind of torture, though they were just enjoying these sounds.
“Gahaha, looks like another cell is going to be empty soon. Maybe we are getting a new member.” The person in the cell beside Caleb’s cell laughed and shouted.
“Hmm? Has he finally lost it? Or are they planning to kill him? They promised to not kill my dog. Hey, stop that or I’ll report to Malgor about it.”
From a faraway cell, Bael, who had just woken up by the screams of Caleb, shouted in an irritated voice. He had put quite a bit of effort into making Caleb what he is right now.
But no reply came to his shout, so he sat back in his cell with a frown. There were many guards on this level too, but they would all only come out on the call of that old man or when it’s time to deliver food.
When Malgor came to fight against Bael, his army was big enough to make Bael throw out any thoughts of fighting back.
So without putting up any fight, Bael surrendered but on one condition: that he should be treated well and a couple of his pets should be allowed to live, like Caleb.
Of course, Malgor agreed to this condition since if there really is a war many people on his side will die too. So it was a win-win and Malgor even agreed to let Bael give his freedom back after making him stay in the prison for a few years.
Caleb’s screams continued to sound across the prison for over more than an hour. The guards standing outside were feeling that something was wrong since the two guards who went in with Jayden had not returned yet.
But they decided to wait a little longer thinking they might be talking with others inside.
After more than an hour had passed of making Caleb go through exactly those moments of torment, he finally collapsed and the feeling of hunger finally became small enough for him to control it.
His monstrous body slowly began to return to his original self. Jayden easily tore his chains and allowed him to lie down.
Jayden had to make him go through all that torture so he could again return to being the real Caleb. There was a chance that he could have died, but even death would have been better than becoming something like that.
Jayden made a small cut on his finger with his nail and allowed a drop of blood to fall into Caleb’s mouth. This would heal him and in no time he would wake up.
“Now, let’s go meet Bael.” Jayden mumbled, and Anna just observed without saying anything.
In the other cell, Bael was walking back and forth, biting his finger as blood constantly dropped down his hand. It was a habit of his. Whenever he was tense, he would start chewing his own fingers.
“Is he dead? Even though I put so much effort into creating him, so many years to make him what he was now, how dare he go back on his own words. I’m going to kill Malgor after I get out of this place, that bastard.” Bael spoke through gritted teeth.
*STEP* *STEP*
Just then he heard the sound of footsteps getting closer. Thinking that it might be the guard who had just killed his pet monster, Bael began to shout:
“Hey, didn’t I order you to stop? How dare you to ignore my words? Do you even know who I am? Huh? Come here, I’m going to show you shouldn’t mess with me.”
“Of course I do.” Jayden finally arrived in front of Bael. He stood outside the cell without any expression on his face.
Bael looked at him strangely. He didn’t seem to be a guard. Heck, he didn’t even look like someone from the beast tribe. With a frown on his face, he questioned:
“Who are you? And are you the one who killed my pet?”
“Let’s skip the useless talk.” Jayden spoke.
