Chapter 737: Old friends
There are a lot of ways to get a new eye, so he was able to survive in exchange for just some pain.
Actually, it really was not that bad of a deal if he could actually survive, so holding back his scream he sat up straight and put a hand over his eyes to stop the blood. He looked up at Jayden with a pleading gaze.
“Thank you. T-Thank you for sparing my life,” Bael spoke, but he planned to take revenge for this humiliation and pain that he had to go through.
Since his own strength wouldn’t work against Jayden, he planned to sell the Demonic Devouring Arts in secret in exchange for Jayden’s life. He had not sold that technique yet as all the people who were fighting for it were forced to give up on it in the end.
“Yes, yes, I’m way too kind to do anything like this, I can’t handle too much bloodshed,” Jayden said as he wiped his hands off. Then without even looking at Bael, he turned around to leave, which made the one-eyed Bael relax as he felt that Jayden was really going to spare him.
Just when Jayden had appeared at the entrance of the cell, his steps halted, and exactly at the same time, Bael felt goosebumps all over his body. He hugged himself and hid in the corner like a scared kid.
“Don’t worry, I haven’t changed my mind, but it seems someone else has come here to meet you,” Jayden spoke as he put a hand on the shoulder of the person standing beside him.
Bael heaved a sigh of relief and finally looked up. His breathing almost stopped at what he saw; it was Caleb but in his human form, and he was looking back at him with his bloodshot eyes. It was obvious that he had regained his senses completely.
“Also, don’t try to use any attacks since they will explode immediately,” Jayden said and then finally walked away from there, leaving the two close friends alone.
“C-Caleb, is it really you? I almost couldn’t recognize you after seeing you in a different form for so long, but you look exactly the same as when you were younger.”
Bael spoke in a low voice, a small smile on his face. He was trying his best to pretend that he was not nervous.
“Why did you do it? How can you do it? Just how?” Caleb’s tone was as chilly as it could get, and his words sent shivers down Bael’s spine, who sat there with a hand over his face.
“Y-You have misunderstood it. I wasn’t the one to do any of that to you. Instead, I have been taking such good care of you for so many years.
I have kept you close, hoping that one day you would be back to normal, and it seemed all my prayers finally paid off,” Bael said, but his shaky body gave away the fear he was feeling.
“I treated you the same as my brother, but you… You turned me into that mindless creature. I slaughtered my entire village, killed my brother, k-killed my wife and our unborn child with my own hands.
I was seeing and feeling everything so clearly, yet I couldn’t do anything to stop it. Do you know how much it hurt me? I cursed you with each breath and prayed to receive death.
But I just kept killing more and more people. You made me into that. You ruined my everything. When had I ever done anything bad to you? Why? Why did you do it?”
Caleb’s voice grew louder with each passing moment, his body slowly turning red. He was turning back into that monster again, but now he had control over his mind and emotions unlike before.
“I was just trying to keep you with me and give you s-strength. I didn’t know the effects would be so severe and that would happen with your family.
This was all your fault to begin with. Why did you ask to leave me just because your wife was pregnant? We were both progressing so fast together.
We made promises to rule so many planets together, but you were trying to run away in the middle. This was all your fault, or we would have reached even higher heights by now.”
Bael retorted as he condensed the same attacks over both his palms. Even if Jayden was unaffected by it, he was sure Caleb would certainly get severely injured from it if not dead.
But there was an invisible layer of sphere around Bael, which absorbed all the energy from his attack the instant it manifested. All that was left was the destructive part of it, which Bael was not able to control.
*BOOOOM* *BOOOOM*
In the next moment, they both exploded in his hands before he had the chance to throw them away.
Both of Bael’s hands were now injured; a couple of his fingers had been blown away. The prison was filled with new screams he released, but this was just the start.
As he looked in front of him, he saw a creature that looked even more dangerous than he could have remembered.
Caleb’s transformation was mostly based on his emotions, and before this day he had always tried to hold himself back. But now he was allowing himself to go berserk.
“Wait, wait. Please spare my life. You can have everything I have. Just let me go; I’ll even give you the Demonic Devouring Arts, or even the-” Bael began to beg, knowing that it was impossible to defeat Caleb or escape from here.
“Return my family, my wife, my child, my brother, and all those people who were killed by me,” Caleb spoke in his beastly rough voice as he walked close to Bael on all four of his limbs like a wild beast.
*ROOOOAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRR*
Releasing a loud roar, Caleb pounced on the frightened Bael and began to tear his body apart slowly, so that he wouldn’t be able to die and would feel so much pain that he would start to beg to let him die.
“Ahhhhhhhhhhhh. Stop it, ughhhhhhh noooooo,” Bael’s screams were so loud and painful that all the other people in other cells sat back, feeling the dread and hoping that they do not go through anything like that.
Caleb madly bit and slashed at his body with his sharp claws. The pain that Bael had felt just some time ago when his eye was removed seemed so feeble in front of what he was feeling now.
He hoped that it would have been better if Jayden had just killed him. Now he would die even if he begged for it.
Caleb’s roars and growls rang out mixed with Bael’s screams. Everything became completely silent besides those two voices.
Caleb’s teeth seemed to possess some kind of poison, which he released into Bael’s body, and he continued to release all the anger he had felt over these years.
Jayden walked up to the old man who was completely ignoring all the noises that were coming from inside.
