Chapter 778: Life or Death
“And what are these punishments?” she asked. Hera was still trying to figure out just why this person had come to Mount Olympus; his actions had been strange from the beginning.
“If you lose, you have to follow all my orders for three entire days. Those three days don’t have to be consecutive, by the way,” he replied, pointing three fingers in front of her.
“And what exactly are you planning to do in those three non-consecutive days?” Hera asked as a frown appeared on her face. It seemed she was about to get angry.
“I am going to do exactly the things you are imagining right now, but much more intense. In those three days, I’ll have complete control over you,” Jayden said with a small smile, which infuriated her even further.
Her aura began to surround Jayden. It was as if she was planning to kill him.
She was literally the goddess who protects women and marriages and hates infidelity the most, and this person was asking her to commit such acts. Of course, she was going to be furious.
“Is that supposed to be a joke?” Hera’s body began to float, her eyes glowing dangerously, and she was ready to tear his body apart.
“Do you think I am joking?” Jayden said without a change in his expression. He remained seated on his chair despite all the pressure that Hera was putting on him.
“I am not sure why you are acting so confident. Do you believe my husband will come save you if I attack you?”
Her voice seemed to get louder as she floated closer to him and was about to use her divine energy to attack him.
“Behave, woman.” All of a sudden, a strong aura was released by Jayden’s body that pushed Hera back a little, stopping her attack.
She was quite surprised. He was definitely much stronger than she believed. The aura she just felt didn’t seem any weaker than her own, so she was sure it wouldn’t be easy to kill him if she fought him right now.
Calming her mind, she spoke: “I knew it from the beginning that you weren’t what you were pretending to be.
Anyway, when I promised to grant you one wish, I told you that you couldn’t ask me for anything like this. So if you don’t have another wish, then I am leaving—”
Saying that, she landed on the floor slowly and was about to walk away, but her step halted before she could even take one step as Jayden spoke:
“I heard you were quite intelligent and cunning, but maybe we really can’t trust rumors. You are quite dumb.” While he was speaking, her expression got more furious. Then he continued:
“In return for your promise, I didn’t ask for anything erotic. I asked you for a simple game which doesn’t involve anything strange, but it is the punishment after losing that involves those things.
Therefore, my wish to play a game doesn’t directly have any lewd meaning behind it.”
Hearing his explanation, she understood that it was a trap. Playing some game wasn’t against her words, so she would have to grant his wish. After all, gods’ promises aren’t just simple words.
‘But it is only going to be a trap if I lose. First, I need to understand what type of game he is planning to play,’ Hera thought. Then, moving back, she sat on the chair and asked:
“First, explain what type of game you are planning to play with me?”
“It’s simple. The game is called Life and Death and in this game, there are going to be two paper slips.”
While he was explaining, two identical folded paper slips appeared in his hands. He placed them both on the table in front of her. Then as he continued to explain:
“One of those slips has ‘Life’ written on it and the other has ‘Death.’ during the game I will know which slip contacts what exactly, but you won’t.
When the game starts, I will give you one slip, and if you can correctly guess who among us has the ‘Life’ slip, then you win. But if you guess wrong, then you lose. You understand it, right?”
This was just another version of the life and death pill that is quite popular on Earth. This game has a factor of luck, too, but it needs extreme thinking capability to make the right decision.
Both the giver and the guesser have to understand what the other person is thinking. The giver has to predict what the other person will think and manipulate them so that they fail.
While the guesser would have to understand the mentality of the giver. Both the people would have to think hard before they make any decisions.
‘Hmm, this game is quite interesting. I have never heard about anything like it. It’s going to test the intelligence of both the people.
Putting aside the luck factor, the clever one with foresight and manipulation will be the winner,’ Hera thought.
When it came to games of the mind, she was quite confident. Even though she had just heard about this game, she was sure she could defeat Jayden.
“And how do I know you aren’t cheating in this game?” Hera asked as she picked up the paper slips and checked them both one by one.
“Everything will be as open as it could be. There won’t be any cheating involved in this game, and the slips will be right in front of you. And I am sure you would easily be able to catch if I try anything,” Jayden said.
Then he added: “There will be five rounds of the game. The one who wins the most rounds will be the winner.”
“And what if you lose?” Hera asked with confidence in her voice.
“If you have something on your mind, you can suggest it, but I was planning on telling you about one of your husband’s affairs that even you aren’t aware of.
Though if it’s something else that you want, then we can change it—” Jayden said, shrugging his shoulders.
“…” Hera wondered how he would know about something like that if even she wasn’t aware of it, or if he was just bluffing.
But remembering that he even knew about Maia’s location, she felt that he might actually know it.
“Okay, if you lose, you will have to tell me that news,” Hera said. She knew she was on the losing end of this deal since Jayden wouldn’t be losing anything even if he lost.
“So tell me, what would happen if you lose?” Jayden spoke to make sure that she couldn’t go back on her words or play word games.
“There is no way I am going to lose. If it’s a game that involves using the mind, then you would never be able to defea—” she replied with arrogance in her voice.
“Tell me, what will happen if you lose? I need to make sure that you understand everything before we start the game,” he interrupted her in the middle of her words.
