Chapter 780: Wrong?
Even after twenty minutes had passed, she found it hard to make a choice, even though there were only two options and the chances of winning were 50 percent on the surface.
“But in reality, the chances of both options are not the same. Based on the previous turn, the change in hands had increased one’s chances,” she thought, and finally, she made up her mind to make a choice:
“I am again going to choose the slip I have received,” Hera said. She seemed quite sure of her choice this time.
“Okay, then go ahead and check whether that’s a life slip or a death slip,” Jayden spoke. It was like he was not taking any tension about the game.
The fact that he was not even taking much time to think while he would have to make a proper plan himself made Hera feel a little uneasy.
She picked the slip from in front of her and unfolded it, then she looked at the text.
“It’s the death slip,” Hera said as a frown appeared over her face. She had miscalculated, but right now, both of them were at the same level, so she wasn’t much worried.
“Looks like I won this round, then let’s start the third round without wasting any time.” Saying that, Jayden took the slip from her and folded it, then he shuffled them properly.
Then, after a moment, he extended his right hand and gave her the slip, while keeping the left one to himself, while looking at her with a smile.
“Make your choice,” he said in a calm voice.
“…” This round seemed even tougher than the previous one. Now she had to consider everything from the two rounds and the things from this round too.
“It’s just like the first round where he gave the slip in his right hand. Does that mean he has the death slip? Or does he want me to think like that? And based on the two previous rounds…”
Hera continued to think, her gaze moving from the slips to his face and then his hands.
As if searching for a clue, the loss from the last round had an effect on her mind, even though she was trying to remain calm.
“I am going to choose the slip I have,” she said again. She didn’t seem as sure as she was before.
“Okay, then check the slip,” Jayden spoke, his gaze remained on her.
Hera picked up the slip and unfolded it for the third time, then the frown on her face deepened as she saw the text written on it.
“It was the death slip,” she said, pushing the slip into Jayden’s hand. It seemed she had gotten frustrated with the result.
Now Jayden would have to win just one more time in the next two rounds, and he would be the winner, while she would have to win two times to defeat him.
“Let’s start the next round. Be careful; this is going to be tricky,” Jayden spoke as the corners of his lips rose slightly, which also increased the headache she was feeling.
‘Was there a special meaning behind his words? What did he mean by tricky? Is he going to make some kind of changes?’
Even before the game could start, her head was already quite chaotic, and the defeat from the last two rounds made it even harder for her to concentrate.
Jayden then extended his left hand towards her and gave her a slip while keeping one in his right hand, opposite to the previous round.
‘Again, he changed the hands. How am I supposed to react to these changes? Should I make the same choice as I did in the last rounds? But what if he still has the life slip? Then I’m going to lose,’ Hera wondered.
This time, she took more than half an hour to finally come to a conclusion.
“I am going to choose the slip that you have,” Hera said. A big frown could be seen on her face, and there was no confidence.
“Okay, then take a look at this.” Jayden extended his right hand and allowed her to pick the slip. Hera unfolded the paper slip and read the content.
“The death slip…” Hera said in a low voice. She could feel her head buzzing, but then she thought of something: ‘But what if he is cheating?’
She picked the other slip and looked at the text written on it. It was the life slip, and during the entire time, she didn’t sense Jayden doing anything strange.
“So I won the game. Do you want to play the last round, or should we just forget it since there is no reason to do it?” Jayden asked, taking the slips from her, but just as he was about to put them away, Hera spoke:
“Let’s play the last round anyway. It won’t affect the game’s result.”
She was quite proud of her high intelligence and cunning, so this was a huge blow to her pride and ego. Hera felt that she had to defeat him, or she might never recover from this.
“Well, okay, if that’s what you want.” After speaking, Jayden shuffled the slips and again held one slip in each hand, then he extended the left one towards her and gave her one slip.
Hera was so confused with his strange patterns, as it was not making any kind of sense while she kept trying to connect the dots. With all that thinking, she could feel her mind getting light.
“I am choosing the slip I have,” Hera said. This time she made the choice within ten minutes.
“Check it out, then—” Before Jayden could speak, she picked the slip and opened it.
“Death? H- How…” Hera mumbled. She couldn’t understand just how Jayden was managing to predict all her actions so easily. It made her feel as if he could easily see through her.
The first round that she won was only a trap Jayden had set from the beginning to manipulate her and make her choose whatever he wanted.
Even though most gods, even Zeus himself, fight and consider an opponent weak or strong based on their physical prowess, Hera knew very well just how destructive mental strength could be.
Intelligent and cunning people could easily manipulate others and cause wars without even lifting a hand. Hera knew just how dangerous Jayden was, even if his physical strength was not considered.
“You are quite good at this game. You didn’t cheat to win, did you?” Hera asked, her expression looking cold.
“Nah, why would I need to cheat in front of you? Please don’t insult me like that. Anyway, you are going to fulfill your promise, right?” Jayden spoke as the slips disappeared.
“Forget about the game, but I think it is more important to eliminate you right here and now so that you don’t cause any harm to my husband or children.
I’ll have to take care of you now, so get ready to embrace death, that was the only reason why I brought you here.” Hera spoke.
