Chapter 804: The beginning of journey
Looking around, Jayden felt that he should move to a different location first. The place was filled with a bad smell; after all, many people had been burned to death there.
In the next moment, they teleported to a place some distance away. It was an open field with beautiful flowers, giving a peaceful and calming aura with a fresh and flowery fragrance.
He sat down, and after staring around in surprise, the girl sat down beside him, staring into the distance.
Despite being so young, she had a mature aura around her; after all, such an incident must have had a great impact on her mind.
“Here, you should eat it,” Jayden said as he took out a chocolate from his ring and, after removing the wrapper, passed it to her.
After a few seconds, she took the chocolate and began to eat it, still looking as if her body had already lost its soul.
“What’s your name?” Jayden asked. He didn’t want to talk about the incident that had just taken place.
“… Sera,” Sera replied after finishing the chocolate. Then she stared at Jayden’s face for a while as if searching for some answer.
“Oh, I know someone who has a similar name to you. Anyway, do you have anything to ask?” Jayden spoke, his smile radiating with a calming effect.
“Are you evil? What is evil? Am I a demon?” Sera asked, blinking her big, watery eyes.
“Heh, you sure have a lot of questions. Hmm, let’s start with what is evil…” Jayden spoke, then after pausing for a moment, he added:
“Well, the definition is really simple. Anyone who does things that are morally incorrect can be called evil. But who created these morals, and why do we care about the limitations set by others?
Honestly, everyone knows in their heart if the things they are doing are right or not, if it will hurt someone or not. So just follow your own path. And as for me…”
He paused a little as he turned his gaze from the girl’s face towards the moon and said:
“According to others, I am evil, a demon. Like you just saw, I burned them all to death, so according to morals, that makes me an evil person too.
But according to my beliefs, there was nothing wrong with it. If you hurt others, then you should possess the strength that others can’t hurt you. If you are weak, you are wrong, doesn’t matter if you really did something bad or not.”
Hearing his words, Sera couldn’t help but nod her head slightly.
If she had possessed strength like Jayden’s, then no one in the village would have been able to kill her family like that or even think of hurting her.
“…” Then Sera waited to hear the answer to her third question. The villagers were all calling her a demon, punishing her for it, and almost burned her alive.
“Haha, how could a cute little girl like you be a demon? Have you ever killed someone? Or hurt others?” Jayden asked with a small chuckle.
Sera immediately shook her head. Some time ago, she didn’t even properly know the definition of death, only knowing that at a certain age, some people would leave them and go on a long journey.
*RUMBLE*
Sera’s belly made a small sound.
“Then you are not a demon,” Jayden spoke as he took out a piece of sweet bread and gave it to her. He had stored them because of Emma.
Sera ate the bread in silence. She was really hungry and had not eaten anything in the past few days.
After talking with Jayden, she was feeling a lot better, even though it wouldn’t be easy to get out of the shadows of the horror she had witnessed.
After a while, Sera finally asked a question she was really curious about: “Can I also become strong like you?”
“Hmmm, maybe if you work hard and do not give up, you can definitely become as strong as me.” Not saying it directly, Jayden was just motivating her to live.
They sat in silence for some time while looking at the stars in the sky. Slowly but surely, Sera’s gaze began to change, and she no longer seemed as if she wanted to give up on her life. Seeing this, Jayden felt better.
After talking with her for a while, Jayden stood up and looked at Sera. Then he asked, “Do you wish to leave this place? If you want, I can bring you somewhere much safer, where no one would hurt you.”
“…” Sera stayed silent for a while as she just stared at the distant stars. Jayden didn’t know what thoughts were going through her head, nor did he try to find out.
He just waited for a couple of minutes. Finally, Sera turned her gaze back towards him and spoke: “No, I want to stay here.”
“Are you sure? You might end up in a situation similar to before.” Jayden spoke, not asking why she didn’t want to leave this place, but at least she seemed determined.
“Yes, thank you for saving me earlier. But there is something I have to do,” Sera said after bowing her head in front of him.
Jayden laughed as he patted her head, saying, “You talk like an adult. If that’s what you want, then you can stay here, though no one will probably come to save you next time, so be careful.”
Jayden took two steps forward and stopped as Sera called him from behind: “Can I meet you again?”
“Maybe if fate allows it, but if you grow strong, then there’s a high chance for us to meet again,” Jayden spoke as a portal appeared in front of him.
Sera was surprised as she saw the portal. It looked so magical that she felt very curious about it, but she silently watched Jayden walking away.
Before he disappeared, his steps halted. After thinking for a moment, he turned back and walked to her.
Then he took out a small bottle from his ring and made a small cut over his finger. He filled the bottle with his blood and pointed it towards her.
“If you are in trouble, just drink this blood. It’ll help you,” Jayden said.
These few drops of blood contained the poison that could turn her into a vampire. Because of the resemblance to Emma, he didn’t feel good about leaving her in danger.
Sera took the small bottle without asking any questions or doubting his words. She just nodded. Finally, Jayden walked through the portal and disappeared, and then the portal closed.
Sera stared at the thin air for a few seconds, then she looked down at the bottle containing Jayden’s blood and mumbled:
“Ah… I forgot to ask his name. And I should have told him my full name. What if he doesn’t recognize me in the future?”
She fell silent, regretting not thinking about it earlier. Then she mumbled, as if telling the air: “I am Seraphina…”
After standing in the field for a while, she turned around and walked away. This was the day when Seraphina started her journey, and soon she would meet her closest friend, Hecate.
