“I didn’t even know what happened, but a strange beam of light saved both of us and then disappeared.”
“But you were in very critical condition. I couldn’t leave you in this dangerous state, so I was forced to resort to this option.”
Alice noticed Leon’s reaction, but to her disappointment, she found that he was attentive but had no reaction.
Alice sighed, preparing for what she would say next.
“The first thing you need to know is that what we have contracted is called a soul bond, and it is done through a kiss between soul mates, through the meeting of the mana of soul mates.”
Before Alice could continue, Leon raised his hand to stop her: “What do you mean by soul mates?”
Alice replied with some hesitation: “Soul mates are the two people destined to be together.”
Leon opened his eyes wide: “You mean…”
Alice nodded: “That’s right. If we weren’t soul mates, you wouldn’t have been healed. I don’t know the source of this, but this is what is known among all the inhabitants of the Empire of Souls.”
Suddenly, something clicked in Leon’s mind, and he stopped Alice: “Wait a minute. You said that if I weren’t your soul mate, the kiss wouldn’t have healed me”
“But how do you know that I am your mate and that the kiss would work and save me?”
Alice’s face took on a serious expression: “Listen to me, Leon. What I am about to tell you must be kept a secret, or just as the soul bond saved you, it will take your life before you even utter the word.”
When Leon heard these words, he quickly understood: “You mean it’s also a curse just to keep this a secret?”
Alice nodded: “This is the reason why the Empire of Souls has never had any traitors in its history.”
Leon said hesitantly: “But what if your soul mate is from a hostile empire? How do you even know who your mate is?”
Alice responded with a smile: “All the inhabitants of the Empire of Souls, upon reaching adulthood, start having dreams about their soul mates, and you were my mate.”
“And don’t worry, our history has never seen such an event. Soul mates are usually chosen from the inhabitants of the Empire of Souls, and only a few have mates from outside the empire, like me.”
Alice hesitated: “But there is something else you should know.”

Leon’s head was spinning when he heard he was in a forced marriage contract, but even before he could draw conclusions, Alice rushed to clarify further.
“I don’t want you to think of this the wrong way. We were chosen to be soul mates for each other, and I am sure the love between us will blossom.”
Her last words were just a whisper, with some shyness.
What Alice forgot to tell Leon was that she had been in love with him for a long time, and the only reason for that was her stronger bloodline as a member of the royal family.
This allowed her to see her soul mate from a young age, and she always wanted to meet him. As things progressed, for years every night she dreamt of Leon.
