Chapter 583: Pill Power
“Huh? Oh yes.”
“I’m gonna go watch over there.”
Jin Fang was a bit caught up in the sight of the kaijin sparring with her lover’s cousins, so much so that she forgot about the fact that she had been sent here with a parcel to deliver to the aforementioned cousins. Rianna on the other hand didn’t have to do anything, so she decided to make herself at home and watch the puppets(kaijin) kick butt…in an informative way.
From what she could see, the scions were getting the hang of fighting Zhen Liu’s entourage…but they were barely keeping up.
“Corriandis has finished reviewing the pills we received from the main branch, they’re legit.”
From a red lacquer box that was strapped to her back, Jin Fang produced several jade bottles that were emblazoned with the main Zhen Clan’s emblem.
There were about seven in total, each radiating a different medicinal aroma, that was essentially tailor made for each of the scions of the branch clan.
The medicinal aromas attracted Zhen Hai and Zhen Yue’s attention, while Zhen Liu looked…unaffected.
“By order of the elders and the patriarch, the young masters are to digest these pills and facilitate a breakthrough if possible.”
“Really?”
“No, but he did request you lot to eat these quickly. Something about them losing efficacy the longer you wait.”
“Ah…”
“Hmm.”
As Zhen Liu stared at the pills, his face made an instinctual grimace at the sight.
This reaction was partially due to him remembering all the times in his past when he tried to use aether medicine to kick-start his cultivation, only for it to explosively backfire like all of the formulas, and partially due to the fact that his pill was, for a lack of a better word, incredibly generic.
When the branch clan was given access to the main clan’s alchemy wing, their resident alchemist took the time to review all of their formulas and prepare specific pills to help with each person’s personal cultivation track.
For example, due to Zhen Hai being “technically” being someone with both water and lightning aether in his body, the alchemist provided him with a Conductive Tide Pill, a third rank aether pill that could strengthen the aether channels associated with water and lighting aether for Aether Masters and below.
While this pill wouldn’t make it so that Zhen Hai could breakthrough into Aether Grand Master in an expedient manner, it would at least provide him with the foundation necessary to breakthrough at a later date.
The one who really lucked out of this entire situation though was, surprisingly, Zhen Xing.
The man was compatible with this one aether pill they had in storage called the Azure Demon Fox Fire Pill, a fourth rank aether pill and also the highest rank that they had received in the whole batch of pills given, that the main clan couldn’t find anyone appropriate to give it to and couldn’t seem to get rid of no matter how many times they tried to trade it away. As such, they figured they might as well give it to the branch clan since they didn’t have any ill intent for the main clan…probably.
Either way, even if something did go wrong, a certain cousin of Zhen Xing had access to a giant ass library and a pair of smart-mouthed spirits that could help out in a pinch…hopefully.
Speaking of that certain cousin though, when the alchemist finally got to Zhen Liu in order to prepare him a pill, the alchemist stared at Zhen Liu for a solid minute in dead silence before throwing up his hands in the air and tell the family, “I have no fucking clue if my pills could work on this guy. I seriously can’t get a read on him.”
Evidently, part of the reason why the alchemist gave such an answer was because not only was Zhen Liu suppressing his cultivation as to hide the fact that he was technically an Aether Grandmaster, but also because his cultivation formula was just…a hot mess to outside observers.
To put things into perspective, that alchemist saw Zhen Liu’s cultivation in the same way someone stares at chalkboard covered in mathematical equations that if solved could either solve time travel or create infinite ice cream…or reduce the entire universe into a small goat named Daryl…
Either way, it was incredibly confusing and the alchemist was convinced that if he stared long enough, his head would explode.
As such, Zhen Liu was given a Bone Tide Pill, a third tier aether pill that apparently helps to strengthen one’s bones.
Zhen Liu understood completely why he was given the short end of the alchemy stick, he couldn’t help but still be a bit annoyed by it though.
Taking note of Zhen Liu’s feelings, but choosing not to aggravate his mood further, Zhen Yue and Zhen Hai proceeded to take their respective aether pill bottles from Jin Fang.
“I assume this one is mine?”
“Hello, my delicious aether pill.”
“Master Zhen Liu, don’t you think you should give your other cousins a break so they can use these pills as well?,” Jin Fang suggested.
“Proba…wait a minute…”
Before Zhen Liu answered his girlfriend, he decided to consult his brain trust about something that had just crossed his mind.

‘In retrospect, I should’ve asked this question earlier, but do aether pills and the like do anything for me and the kaijin or nah? And on a related note, I have a vague understanding how aether pills work to strengthen existing channels and how the kaijin can produce temporary ones…what happens if the kaijin possess my cousins while they’re trying to digest these pills?’
=Funny you mention that, we actually have information for that this time.=
‘Medium…?’
=For starters, it’s not that you can’t take aether pills to boost your abilities, it’s just smarter for you to give the pills to the appropriate kaijin due to you not being able to properly digest anything. That and since the kaijin can vary wildly in terms of cultivation formulas, there is a higher chance for one of them reaping the benefits more than you can.=
‘So I’m literally having other people digest my food for me?’
‘Point one for me being technically a parasite again…then what about what happens if someone who digests an aether pill while possessed by a kaijin?’
<=Do you remember what happened to your grandfather when he broke through while Frosttusk was inside his head?=>
‘…OH!’

“Hey guys, y’all can take a break to digest these pills.”
‘Kaijin, get ready for possession.’
“Okay…”
[As you wish!]

Meanwhile…

At the outer entrance to Stomp Town, a pair of Aether Masters in matching black robes and identity obscuring masks were standing about and staring at the enclave’s interior, an air of disdain radiating off of them.
These two were pair of enforcers for the Zhen Clan, who also happen to be siblings, whose main job was to fulfill the less honorable duties that the clan inevitably had to deal with.
Which in this case, they were here to beat up the scions of the Zhen Clan, swap their pills for poisoned ones or at least steal the pills before they could be of any use…whichever came up first.

But before the elder sister could inform her sibling about this particular type of poison had a lovely paralytic and laxative effect combined, four simultaneous spikes in the surrounding aether caused her to shut up almost instantly.
Even the younger brother couldn’t help but pause his train of thought as he felt those exact same spikes.
