Chapter 651: A (Prison) Break
Dialing back the clock a bit…

Moments ago, the Gate Elder and the Puppet Elder of the Zhen Clan were just about to go and investigate one of their stranger prisoners, a demonic skeletal woman that the Puppet Elder was convinced was not actually a living person, but an aether puppet under the command of the Fourth Young Master of the Zhen Clan.
However, before they had a chance to go and test whether or not their suspicions were correct, the chamber in which the strange prisoner was held in had blown open, but not because of the prisoner herself.
As fate would have it, the City Guard had managed to suppress a possible terrorist attack just the day before, and sent a handful of Aether Masters alongside some Acolytes. This would turn out to be a ruse, however.
The cells used in the Zhen Clan prison were designed in such a way that they could only be opened from the outside with a very specific key. This was due to the fact that every single cell had an aether array in place that only activated when the cell’s doors were tampered with.
Depending on the value of the prisoner, these arrays would either create shells of blackened iron that could act as solitary confinement cells, or just instantly extinguish the life of the detained.
Either way, while the Puppet and Gate Elder didn’t see this event occur, the two of them were damn certain that the Fallen must’ve somehow snuck in a spy or bribed someone in order to undo all of the arrays holding back the prisoners.
Making matters worst, the captured terrorists had not only busted out the other prisoners, many of whom were either criminals with a grudge against the Zhen Clan or previously captured Fallen Clan members, but they had actually been suppressing their true power levels until this exact moment.
It wasn’t a handful of Aether Masters with some Acolytes that had been sent to the prisons, they were actually a handful of Aether Grandmasters accompanied by some Masters.
Once this group of invaders met up with the prisoners, together they would become an unstoppable force…which unfortunately is what had already happened.
The explosion that had rocked the prison to pieces was a sign that the Fallen had managed to open multiple cells at once, some of which contained prisoners that could go toe to toe with the High Elders with no problem at all. As for one that could take on the Zhen Clan matriarch…they had no need for that, since such a warrior was the one coordinating all of this. Now they just had to recruit these bastards to their cause.

The only ones preventing this force from being able to cut escape wholesale and wreak havoc wa the Puppet Elder, the Gate Elder, a handful of guardsmen and a whole bunch of puppets that kept getting smashed into pieces.
Amongst smashed rubble and burning bodies, the Zhen Clan warriors were getting more and more desperate and were in need of a miracle.
The Puppet Elder’s latest attempt at using a puppet to fight was the strange cat puppet he had originally given to the Gate Elder not too long ago, that he had requested back for this particular fight.
Normally, the man would use two handmade puppets of his to fight in such situations, but they had been render inoperable due to sustained damages. Aether puppets may be designed to take a beating, but not even the highest quality puppet can withstand attacks from several Grandmasters at once.
As such, the Puppet Elder had to make use of increasingly inferior quality of aether puppets to keep fighting, until he was now at the point where he and to borrow one. In other words, shit was getting desperate.
<
“Mrow!”
The recently summoned puppet cat immediately sprang into action at the Puppet Elder’s command, bearing it’s claws to slash at the Fallen Clan warriors and convicts alike.
<
<
<
The puppet cat managed to cut down several of the convicts at the Master stage and injure a Grandmaster in the process too. However, this momentum didn’t last long.
“Mrow!”
<
*BAM!*
<
<
The cat puppet had attempted to attack what appeared to be an unassuming old man that was part of the freed convicts group, only to be suddenly smashed into pieces by a single strike.
The pieces simply clattered on the ground, rolling towards a peculiar cell, who’s occupant had yet to join the battle, oddly enough. Once a particular component of the cat puppet stopped rolling, the [Echo Stone] that gave the cat the ability to talk, the occupant in the cell suddenly began to move towards it.
Granted, nobody really noticed this strange behavior, as a majority of the people in the room were busy trying to murder each other.
The unassuming old man step forward after smashing the puppet to pieces in order to address the two Zhen Clan elders.
When the two elders saw who this old man was though, they immediately recoiled in instinctual terror.
After all, this old man happened to be an Aether Lord, albeit, an injured one.
The only reason he hadn’t acted until now was due to needing to treat said injury, but enough time had passed at this point and he was ready to fight…mostly.
<
<
<
Evidently this aether spike was so strong, nobody noticed how a strange demonic skeleton woman in an empty cell was undergoing a transformation of her own after swallowing the [Echo Stone]. However, they were all about to feel the results of this transformation on a firsthand basis.
<
Just as Gao Yu Feng was about to bring down the thunder, quite literally, a strange energy made its prescene known and caused everyone in the room to pause.
Not because it was particularly powerful, but because something about it felt…off. Whatever that feeling was, it was enough to make the Fallen warriors nervous.
<
<
<>
The only ones who weren’t feeling the emergency was the two Zhen Clan elders, because if anything, they recognized this energy, having ran into it before on two very different occasions.
<
<
<<...>>
<
<
As soon as they both agreed to this plan of action, a powerful scream rocked through the area, one that sounded like the wailing dead, begging for salvation.
<
Needless to say, the Fallen-Convicted warrior group were caught by surprise by how dangerous this scream felt…but also by the weird energy being shaped like a demon woman barreling in and punching someone in the face.
In short, things were about to get messy.
<
<
*BOOM!*
“GUK!”

Dialing the clock forward a bit…
[Alright, is it safe to assume that the giant pillar of smoke is where our proto is located?]
[That and the wild [Chaos] is a good indicator as well.]
[Fair point.]
Shortly after being “repelled” from the arena, Razorstella and Spring Brawler had managed to coordinate a reunion before making their way to the Zhen Clan prison…or at least, what they assumed was a prison.
On the way there, they had to smash multiple pieces of rubble that came from the direction of this prison, meaning that someone or something was actively using parts of the building for combat purposes. Of course, this could also have meant that whomever they were looking for had bailed.
[Wait, what if who were looking for isn’t in this direction anymore? What if they had-]
[AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!]
[Nevermind.]

While Zhen Liu and Gao Lin were having a contest of equal(?) strength, the battle between Jinju Ren and Gao ZhiHui was more or less a one sided beatdown.
Gao ZhiHui had initially put up a decent fight, using strange ink based aether arts to confuse and bind Jinju Ren at multiple points, but was eventually overpowered due to the princess making liberal use of her dragon force abilities.
Now the once cocky warrior of the Fallen Clan was busy trying to avoid being turned into dragon food…and barely succeeding at that.
As for the battle between Zhen Liu and Gao Lin, it was about to reach a climax.
‘Alright, I just need to channel some fire aether into my feet and…’
