Chapter 669: Ringside Assistance
‘Well, that was depressingly informative…wait a minute, how come there wasn’t a profile of whatever kaijin the old war hag is using? I didn’t notice at first, but she is giving off the same vibe as Rip Van Douchebag up there.”
Evidently, the animosity flowing into Zhen Liu from the kaijin was affecting his speech patterns at this point and muting his usual instincts to respect his elders, more specifically, the two incredibly powerful ones using stolen kaijin body parts as built-in weapons.
Well…one was a confirmed steal, the other was unknown. In fact, not even Logos and Pathos knew.
Which was unsettling.
=The energy signature feels familiar, but I can’t identify who it belongs to. I can at least tell you that the maker was the Storm Queen. Same lord as Grand Blue’s arm over there.=
‘Huh…a civil war in more ways than-hold up, why is someone running through the arena’s halls while all of this is going…wait…i-is that who I think it is?’
[Are you referring to Lady Jin Fang running through the halls opposite of you, probably in an attempt to find you?,] Nepherage asked.
Logos added.
[You’re both wrong, I think he’s more focused on the captain of the guard over there packing what appears to be a…pair of giant doll arms? What the fuck?]
‘Okay, I noticed that first thing but what were those other two things because those sounded important!’
Two of these events were actually going to be important to this ongoing battle between Zhen Xun Tian and Gao Ao Long, and as for the third…well…
That wouldn’t be till later.

The following two scenes are actually happening in congress with the battle between Gao Ao Long and Zhen Xun Tian, and with each other.
For the sake of ease of reading, they have been separated into two different sections on this chapter, and have been labeled as such.
Thank you.

The Captain’s Plan
<
Upon his back was a pair of strange looking doll-like arms that were strapped on and appeared to made entirely of ivory and gold. If one were to take a closer look however, they would notice that the material was actually something known as [True Dragon Bones], one of the few materials in this world that cab enable someone to convert their regular aether into dragon force.
Decades ago, a little after Zhen Xun Tian had manage to defeat and capture the War Elder in the first place, she had figured it would be prudent to develop or find some form of countermeasure that was specifically designed to defeat, detain or straight up kill one of the Fallen Clan’s deadliest warriors.
After lucking out by finding the bones of an ancient dragon, the matriarch managed to create something she lovingly called the ,[Dragon Stranglers].
Once the captain handed the [Dragon Stranglers] off to the matriarch, she’d be able to trounce the War Elder with very little additional effort. That said, this task was easier said than done.
In the time it took for the prison break to occur, Captain Zhen Ba Yin and several members of his unit made it a priority to visit the Zhen Clan Treasure Vault in order to acquire a particular aether treasure for her to use, one that just so happened to have been designated for a situation like today.
Not the event of the Fallen Clan attacking though, but in the event that the War Elder finally got set free.
When they arrived to the vaults, however, they had found it being raided by several members of the Fallen Clan, ones that were trained in the nuances of stealth and seal breaking no less. While none of these thieves were stronger than Master rank, the would-be thieves still managed to put up quite a difficult fight.
The fight was actually so intense that Captain Zhen Ba Yin was forced to separate from his soldiers in order to deliver the [Dragon Stranglers] to the matriarch. It was at this point in time that Zhen Xun Tian managed to get out of the sealed sky box, and was also when a certain brackborn child managed to put a premature end to the blood fog that was sapping power from him and his kinsmen.
Of course, even with his powers slowly returning, he still wasn’t strong enough to get involved in a battle between Emperors!
He understood that someone would have to be at least as strong as a peak Aether Lord if they wanted to even get remotely involved in a fight like that, but the only ones who were at that level were currently being held captive by a bunch of Fallen Clan warriors that were way stronger than he was.
From his hiding spot, Captain Zhen Ba Yin could see the high elders being held hostage with swords at their necks, either to force the matriarch to fight or threaten her in the event she started winning against the War Elder. Either way, they were his only hope to get the matriarch the weapon she needed to win, and freeing them wasn’t going to be easy.
‘Dammit! Now how am I supposed to-wait…who’s that?’
Before he could complain about the situation being hopeless, Zhen Ba Yin noticed someone moving towards the captured high elders.
‘Who the heck is…wait…’
It took him a few moments to figure out who it was, but once he did, his eyes went wide with disbelief. For it was none other than Zhen Shi, the patriarch of the branch clan and exile of the main clan, that was on his way to help.
As to why Captain Zhen Ba Yin couldn’t believe this sight, well…
‘Wait…even after years of being treated like a criminal by the family, he’s still willing to help out in a time of crisis. Damn…’
Evidently, this begrudging admiration to do the right thing was going to be turning to admiration for one’s abilities soon.

The Exile’s Involvement.

Watching the battle between Gao Ao Long and Zhen Xun Tian, the leader of the Fallen, Gao Shen Yuan, was busying herself and her entourage by holding the high elders of the Zhen Clan hostage.
Zhen Shen Yuan initially had plans to kill them to demoralize Zhen Xun Tian before actually fighting her, wanting to get every advantage she could, but holding them hostage to throw the painted bitch off her game worked too. Plus, public executions were a lovely way to secure the fealty of a subjugated populace…usually.
Besides, there was nobody else in this whole blasted arena that could actually pose a threat to her and her warriors, so she didn’t mind-
“Hey, let them go!”
<
<
<
Not expecting to be called out, in a foreign language no less, the Fallen Clan’s leader and entourage shifted their attention away from the fighting Emperors to focus on the source of the voice.
Standing before them was a middle aged man in a fighting stance, carrying an attitude that suggested that he knew what he was doing was stupid, but that it was the right thing to do.
In other words, an idiot that was in over his head.
One of the Fallen was just about to ask who this guy and why the fuck he thought demanding anything from them was a good idea, especially since the Fallen matriarch was right there, but then the middle aged guy decided to do so himself.
“My name is Zhen Shi, patriarch of the Zhen Clan of Stampeding Bison, and I demand you let the high elders go.”
<
<
<
<
As she made this threat, Gao Shen Yuan began to circulate her aether in a threatening manner, causing even her clansmen to step back a bit out of pure respect for her power.
Zhen Shi however looked…unimpressed.
“Why should you listen to me? Simple, really. If you don’t let the high elders go, I’ll snap the necks of your entire entourage right here and now.”
<
<
In that same moment, dozens of chains made of ice and water began to manifest and surge towards the Fallen Clan warriors.
<
The Fallen couldn’t even react in time, as the chains quickly wrapped around their necks.
Needless to say, even the matriarch of the Fallen was shocked at this turn of events, especially due to the fact that she couldn’t even sense these chains forming up.
She didn’t exactly have a good expression as she realized what had just occured.

“Dammit! Normally I can sense Xiao Liu because of his strange energy signature, but the arena is somehow flooded with the stuff. How is that fair?!”
