Chapter 828: Scary Mother, Aching Son
“I’m sorry, what?,” Simon replied with a mildly perplexed look on his face.
Simon’s initial plan was to join with the other groups of leaving people, possibly helping to dump the trio of actual intruders into an interrogation cell, but he was interrupted by Daria Nerisa-Zhen suddenly grabbing him by the shoulder and instructing him to stay.
Technically speaking, Simon had no reason to agree to Daria’s request, but the woman proved herself to be significantly scarier than anticipated.
Simon was about to try and weasel a way out of this conversation, until Daria Nerissa-Zhen dropped this bombshell out of nowhere like a plane over the countryside.
[Would you prefer it if I talked like this then, Spring Brawler?]
[What the-?!]
Needless to say, Simon was so shocked at hearing the ringmaster’s mother speak in the language of the kaijin, that he instantly changed back into Spring Brawler.
The proto-kaijin was struck dumb by the sudden exposal, much to the annoyance of the one who exposed him in the first place.
Thankfully for his dumb ass, Daria decided to throw him a lifeline in the form of a conversation mover.
[Okay, so this is the part where you ask when, where and why I can]-*hack*-“never mind I can maintain that voice for long, so you’re gonna have to deal with me speaking Hoof Speech.”
[How the hell can you speak-no, wait, why the hell do you know who I am?!,] Spring Brawler said in alarm. A part of Spring Brawler knew that, deep down, a moment like this would eventually happen some day. Either he, the other kaijin or the ringmaster would eventually get caught by someone Zhen Liu couldn’t bribe and/or sleep with and they’d have to deal with the aftermath.
However, just because Spring Brawler knew this day would come, didn’t mean he had to like it happening. Especially when he was the main focus.
That all said, Daria didn’t really give a shit since she had more pressing things to worry about.
Like the medical status of her darling baby boy.
“Oh for the love of-come here!”
[Bwah!]
Rolling her eyes at her son’s sentient puppet, and his unnecessary panic, Daria proceeded to grab Spring Brawler by the chest plate and pull him in such a manner that he was now eye level with herself.
[Whoa!]
Evidently, this was the moment that got Spring Brawler thinking that Zhen Liu’s absurd physical strength, might’ve been genetically inclined more so than cultivation inclined.
“Alright you overgrown circus slinky, here’s the deal,” Daria Nerisa-Zhen said with all the fury a worried mother could muster in a single instance.
“I know damn well through the eyes of my darling kitty cat, all the things my darling baby boy has been up to, and that includes the fact that he almost got burned to death by some purple flaming ass hat of an aetherii while pretending to be some kind of demon king from a fairy tale. So I’m going to need you to answer some questions for me before I lose my shit. Sound good?”
[Y-yes?]
“Good, good,” Daria said with a significantly happier tone before releasing Spring Brawler’s chest plate and allowing him to bob back and forth like a giant bobblehead doll.
“I hope you understand that I wouldn’t actually inflict any harm on you or the others, since you’re incredibly loyal to my son and good help is always difficult to find, but I am incredibly stressed out in having it reported that my son swallowed flames, went insane and then almost die in a warp explosion, all because some battle hungry maniac showed up out of boredom. I just needed to let out some steam, and threatening someone is an excellent stress reliever, you know?”
[Uh…sure…]
Once again, Spring Brawler started to understand where Zhen Liu picked up some of his mannerisms…possibly.
‘Wait…does the ringmaster have a strange temper because of who he is now, or who he was?’

=I…I’m actually inclined to agree with you on that.=
=Ignoring that comment, speaking of our lord, is he okay now?=
=What new thing?=

|Stabilizing…stabilizing…complete. Spiritual Symbiotic Kaijin has been fully stabilized. Due to quality of materials used though, the kaijin will require twelve hours of hibernation. Normal functions of the [Chaos Body Forge] will be limited until the new kaijin has fully awaken. Please keep this mind as you go about your day. Thank you.|
…
“Gasp!”
With a feeling like lighting ripping through his bones and guts, Zhen Liu suddenly regained consciousness for the third time this day. At this point he really should’ve suffered some form of brain damage from all of these spells of forced unconsciousness, but one of the unexpected upsides of cultivation is that it takes significantly more blows to the head than normal to kill someone.
Which is why instead of acting groggy and wondering if he was dying again, Zhen Liu’s first thought was, ‘Alright, where the fuck am I now?’
Judging by the mattress on his back and the stone ceiling above his head, Zhen Liu figured he must’ve been in some sort of infirmary room. A quick sniff of the air and a glass of his senses allowed him to detect faint traces of [Chaos].
If Zhen Liu had to hazard a guess, the kaijin dropped him off in the library’s infirmary after he passed out…again.
“Alright, if I’m going to pass out like this more often, I’m going to need a helmet…or a bucket at least.”
“You don’t have to tell me twice”
“Huh? Bwah!”
Any sleepiness that was in Zhen Liu’s body at this moment was suddenly and violently flushed from his system as he saw that in a bed not too far away from his own, was his cousin, Zhen Hai.
“Good to see you’re finally awake,” Zhen Hai commented. “I’d come over to give you a hug, but…”
“No, no, no. I get it…what’s with all the-”
“Paralyzing agent.”
“Ah.”
At this moment in time, Zhen Hai was currently wrapped in a strange looking suit that seemed to have been designed to capture and retain naturally body heat. At least, that what Zhen Liu guessed given the heads of sweat dripping down Zhen Hai’s face.
It appeared Zhen Hai’s treatment involved him sweating out the paralyzing agent, go figure.
Zhen Liu continued to stare at his cousin’s medical situation in silence for a couple of a moments, not entirely sure what to say or what to ask.
Technically speaking, the [Library of Nowhere] and it’s contents should’ve been kept secret from his own family until the time was right. However, life appeared to have other plans.
“If you’re wondering what got me paralyzed and wrapped like a stuffed green onion pancake, it involved a giant aether spider with eyes all over it’s limbs. Apparently, the damn thing coated it’s legs with a paralytic venom.”
“Ah,” Zhen nodded in understanding, while hiding the fact that he knew exactly what and who Zhen Hai was referring to.
‘Godsdamn Archanidame, the hell kind of poisons are you cooking in your free time?,’ Zhen Liu asked himself.
A somewhat awkward silence ensued as Zhen Liu had no idea what to say next to Zhen Hai, since he had no idea how much the latter knew in regards to…everything. At the very least, he also had no idea what the kaijin had opted to tell him…or his cousins.
Luckily for his ass, Zhen Hai volunteered this information himself…sort of.
“Xiao Liu, I gotta ask…how long were you part of this sect?”
“I…wait, what?”
“Don’t play dumb,” Zhen Hai said in a tone of voice that implied he knew everything. “I’m talking about the Nowhere Temple. The place that we’re in right now?”
“Oh…that…”
Evidently, the kaijin had kept up the tradition of lying to Zhen Liu’s family about his abilities and status in life, but he didn’t know to what extent. Thankfully, he could find out without leaving the room.
…
‘Guys…what the fu-‘
|Alert. Normal functions of the [Chaos Body Forge] has been rendered inoperable until the spirit body kaijin has fully awaken. Please keep this in mind for the next twelve hours, thank you.|
‘Oh, what the fuck?!’
…
“Uh…”
Zhen Liu was like a deer in headlights as he had no idea what on Valresta Zhen Hai was talking about, but he had an inkling that the kaijin had decided to take his mysterious master idea and amped it up to eleven.
‘Okah, shit I’m going to have to-‘
“Ah! Looks like you two have finally woken up.”
‘OH THANK THE GODS.’
Luckily for Zhen Liu’s ass, before he could embarrass himself with an inconsistent lie, one of the kaijin showed up in their human disguise.
