Chapter 170: Cutting Ties Part-1
Aurelia Scarlet’s POV
I stared at Professor Alaric’s lecture, barely able to keep my eyes open as he droned on about magic ruins and circles and some other ancient language literature…. His class was mostly for those chosen by the Arcane.
But to me, it was mind-numbingly boring. Even though everyone else was listening attentively, I couldn’t muster the same enthusiasm.
I glanced at Selene, who sat beside me, diligently taking notes. Not just one, but two sets of notes.
‘Hmm? Two notes?’ I frowned and silently asked her why. She replied with a single word, “Ether.”
Ah… I see.
She really loves him… Damn, I never thought she was really into him. I watched her for a moment, feeling a mix of surprise and admiration.
Then my eyes landed on Kai, who was sitting with the other guys. He seemed to be fitting in well. Suddenly, our eyes locked, and I immediately turned my head away.
‘Tsk,’ I clicked my tongue, realizing my mistake. That brief eye contact would surely make him think I was still longing for him.
This was why I avoided coming to class with Selene. I always arrived early to avoid encountering him.
To be honest, Though I broke up with him that day, a part of me still wished him happiness.
It’s true, my love died that day when he didn’t stand by my side or even come to help. But as I had once loved him… I truly wished for his happiness. That’s all.
It’s not like I was the devil who would wait for his downfall. Well, maybe a tiny part of me wished it when I was running down the corridor that time, but after meeting Aether, everything changed.
Yeah, I just wish for Kai’s happiness. That’s my final love for him. That’s all.
I was moving forward without any regrets. Though my uncle and others were disappointed, I believe that was the right choice.
Thinking about Aether….. Suddenly, something popped into my head, more like an image that kept reappearing for the past two days.
The image of Aether’s heartfelt relief when he patted my head!
“!!!”
I suddenly flinched as dizziness washed over me, and my cheeks turned a little hot, ‘H-He is a good friend…’ I thought.
I blinked a few times before glancing at Selene, who was still taking two sets of notes.
“Hey, Sel,” I called her quietly.
“Yes?”
“Y-You know, it will be tough to do this for every class… Why don’t I help you?” I suggested, picking up one of her notebooks.
“….There is no–” Before she could object, I told her, “It will be hard to write everything twice. Let me help you… as a friend, I also worried about him, you know!” I said with a serious face.
Selene hesitated before her expression suddenly turned dark and void as she asked indifferently, “Are you in love with MY Ether?”
She was too straight!!
My body involuntarily flinched at her intense gaze. I-I couldn’t help but stammer, “W-What are you talking about? I am doing this as a friend. He helped me, so I thought I could help him as well,” I said very seriously.
Selene stared at me with a blank expression before smiling and nodding.
‘Sigh!’ I felt relieved, but then,
“HE IS MINE!” she dangerously whispered in my ear.
“!!!”
“Y-Yeah… I know….” I gulped, my throat dry with fear. Seriously, what’s with her? I-I was seriously doing this as a friend… that’s all!!
Suddenly,
“Are you guys listening?” Professor Alaric frowned at our side.
We immediately nodded, and then he continued,
“Since we have little time before the period ends, I shall ask you guys…. Have you heard anyone talking about being recognized by your desired weapon?” he asked.
‘Recognized?’ I wondered what he was talking about.
Some nodded… Well, mostly the Chosens while the rest of us were clueless.
Then he continued, “You see, when you pull the mother root during your baptism, the root instantly changes into something you desire, right?”
‘Yes,’ I nodded, as did everyone else.
Then he continued, “Even though you got your desired weapon, you have yet to be recognized by it… It’s like you bought your desired candy; it is yours, but you cannot eat it. Still, you are the only person to hold the candy.”
I… I didn’t understand what he was talking about.
Then he smirked, saying, “I know not many of you get it, but that’s what makes it difficult because no one knows how to be recognized by their own desired weapon… Even I am still unable to be recognized by my own weapon.”
Hearing that, I was shocked. Who would have thought that a previous Arcane King couldn’t get recognized by his own weapon?
Suddenly Thalia, who was the only enthusiastic person, asked, “Does it make any difference?”
Professor Alaric nodded and said, “Yes, a big difference. The moment you are recognized by your weapon, it will become ten times stronger than before.”
“Ten times!!!” Everyone was surprised and shocked to hear that.
‘T-That means if I get recognized by my weapon, it will become even more powerful… damn!!’ I screamed inwardly, my eyes sparkling with curiosity and energy.
Soon, his period was over, and everyone sighed in relief…. His class was always strict and he always had a face as if his wife was snatched by someone… arrrh! That annoying face!
Just as Selene and I decided to move out and get some fresh air, Kai appeared before us….. No, more like he appeared before me instead of asking him, I looked at Selene, who was blocked by Leon.
“H-Hello?” Leon called her.
With a professional smile, Selene asked directly, “What do you want, Sir Leon?”
Leon flinched before glancing at Kai, who shook his head with a wry face and interrupted, saying, “Let’s go for lunch.”
Selene stared at her brother for a long time before nodding, I knew she wasn’t a child to require support so I decided to part ways with them. However,
“Y-You too, L-Lia,” he called me.
‘Ggrrrrr,’ I gritted my teeth inwardly, understanding why this was happening. Well, I was the one who had looked at him first, and avoiding him any longer would only lead to more misunderstandings. So I decided to end this today.
