“Of course, you have to be a better one, you BASTARD!”
“Kughh!”
Ryuk while pressing down Wang, can’t control his mind that was fallen into turmoil at that moment, Not even in his past life he had imagined something like this to happen.
When this whole world accepted him as a tyrant and even declared him a heretic, he knew at least two people were on his side.
He gritted his teeth as those Amber eyes flared, for him, sadness or betrayal would be the last things in his mind right now — It was only rage.
“He will die, Ryuk.”
‘!?’
Ryuk’s mind, which was in a rage, suddenly heard a calm yet soothing voice of a woman before falling into an outburst of emotions.
It didn’t take him much time to understand the reason for this betrayal by Wang.
“So, it was your order, mother?”
Ryuk without removing his gaze from Wang, asked his mother, who seemed to be smiling before speaking, “Yes, or how do you think that old man can go against you?”
She then turned her eyes towards Wang and then continued, “He is not using any mana to protect his body, Ryuk. At this rate, he will die.”
Ryuk already knew about Wang’s body state, as with only using his mana tricks, it would have been impossible to subdue this monster who was beneath his leg acting all like a weakling.
But even if Wang had used mana, “Neither, I am using my full strength, Mother,” it wouldn’t have changed that much.
Ryuk removed his legs as Wang stood while clenching his chest, coughing with a slight guilt in his eyes.
“Cough… thank you, young master.”
He looked towards Ryuk, who, noticing everything, sighed.
He was not a brainless Monster who could just kill anyone without understanding their situation.
Just how, even after pushing those Heroines to the brink of death, he still asked for the reason for their betrayal, Even though they were not his family.
But right now, these two people were more than Just that,”Give me a reason, Mother.”
While not meeting his mother’s gaze, he waited for her response, atleast to receive something that could subside his anger and relieve him, knowing that this time he was not betrayed.
“Why?”
Hearing these words, he looked towards his mother only to find her cold face, confusing him as he couldn’t fathom what it meant before he heard, “Why do you think I need a reason to do anything?”
‘Would you look at that?’
With widened eyes, his face bore a smile. Feeling genuinely happy, he ruffled his hair before giving a bright smile to his mother. “Yes, of course, why would you need a reason?”
Alisia, who seemed to be looking at him coldly, seeing his sudden change in behavior, felt surprised, not understanding why he was smiling like that.
After all, he had just been betrayed a moment ago. But she calmly kept looking at him and spoke, “But, yes, if you want, I can tell you why.”
“Is that so?”
His eyes were only fixed on her, but his mind was somewhere else.
‘Scan this whole area,’ he commanded his system, as those simple lines from his mother’s mouth about not needing any reason were more than enough to understand everything.
[ Seven Entities are overseeing this place ]
‘Those bastards,’
Ryuk couldn’t help but curse those unknown beings and also, his ignorance in his past life. But now, at least, he was getting clues about things hidden beneath the facade.
The moment his mother spoke like that, he knew it was impossible, as his mother never did anything without a valid reason. Whenever she had to hide that particular reason from him, she just acted all strict and silenced him.
Alisia, looking at Ryuk’s carefree attitude while standing in front of her and Wang, seemed confused.
Naturally, she would have thought about him throwing a tantrum, and even after witnessing his strength that was far beyond that of a five-year-old, she only thought about him attacking her.
But whatever it was, she was too busy inside, fighting a very small battle within her mind. ‘I did what you said.’
⟨Give him a offer, you would tell him about the reason, if he defeated you in battle.⟩
‘Are you kidding, Father? He is just a child; he needs me.’
Alisia couldn’t help but feel frustrated due to her helplessness. She looked at her child, who was just five years old and needed her presence all the time, and on the other side, her duties.
She knew she needed to make him strong, and on the other side, it was also true that if he won against her, then it would be her last moment to be with him.
As a mother, she would never let that happen. It was also the reason why she left Ryuk free from any burdens, just to make sure he lazed around and did nothing.
But she blamed her fate — her child turned out to be a prodigy, just like his father.
Ryuk started to show his talent after just a month of being born. On one side, her motherly love was filled with pride, and on the other, it was filled with helplessness.
“Yes, I will tell you the reason if you defeat me in a duel.”
Hearing Alisia’s words, Ryuk’s smile faded as all the pieces started to fall together. He confirmed his doubts. ‘System, what are the locations of these people?’
[Four beings are from Ardoros Continent, To access the information of remaining , ( Level 5 –needed ).]
‘Once again, that name.’
Even in his previous life, though Ryuk never used his system, it would be impossible for him not to use it in his life’s most dire state — Search for his mother’s whereabouts
“Ryuk?”
Making him come out of his thoughts was his mother’s voice. He looked at her while trying to calm his rising anger.
If he knew her helplessness, instead of wasting his precious time on those ungrateful bastards, he would have…
‘It’s okay.’ He shook his head and spoke, “Sorry, Mother. It is impossible for a five-year-old kid like me to fight an adult.”
Hearing Ryuk’s words, Alisia’s eyes widened before relaxing.
She couldn’t help but break her cold facade as a small smile formed on her face. She knew her son at least this much — it would be the lamest excuse he could give, when he had just pressed Wang down.
In that place, these two people stood, knowing each other’s hidden meanings.
Though different, they still knew more about each other than anyone else.
It was what it meant to be a family, where you know each other’s intentions without having to say them.
{A/n:: Just like how readers are my family}
‘System, where is Edward right now?’
[ He is on the Ardoros Continent ]
Hearing this information, Ryuk calmly understood the sudden change in Wang, as he was the one who brought Edward here but suddenly he came to protect him. It’s confusing and now he understood,’So, he got pressure from higher ups, but exactly from whom?’
“Then, I guess I can’t tell you a reason” Alisia looked at Ryuk while calmly waiting for his answer.
“It’s okay, mother. I don’t need answers, but I hope you can leave me alone for some time.”
Alisia frowned due to the unexpected things he was saying all of a sudden. But following his request, she made her way out. Before Wang, too, stood and was about to follow her, “No, Uncle Wang, I want to apologize for my behavior. Can I ask for forgiveness from you alone?”
Hearing Ryuk’s words, Alisia thought something but then gestured for Wang to stay and made her way out of the dungeon.
Wang sighed and turned towards Ryuk. “It was my fault to begin with, Young Master. You don’t nee—”
“Of course I don’t ”
Wang’s eyes widened while he kept looking towards Ryuk, who had a small smile on his face.
Ryuk knew that right now it was impossible to open sealed mouth of someone like Wang with strength, but why he even need to use force when he can just easily make him speak everything.
‘System, isolate this space.’
Hearing his command, a black dome formed, surprising Wang. “Oh, it’s different from the previous one, Young Master. It seems to hide things from the outside like some illusion.”
Wang, filled with pride, looked towards the dome as he analyzed it, unaware of Ryuk’s gaze that seemed to hold a glint while looking at his hand.
“So, Uncle Wang, tell me, how loyal are you to me?”
Without hesitating, Wang spoke as he bowed and put his hands on his chest, “Even though I know I can’t assure you, my loyalty is always with you and…blah…blah.”
Ryuk, who was already annoyed due to losing his prey, ignored Wang’s pleasantries as his hand got shrouded in black smoky mana.
“It’s enough. So, at last, you are more loyal to Mother than me.”
Wang, not looking at Ryuk while bowing, “Young Master, you and the Princess are like two hands, even without one…’?!’ ”
WHOOSH
Wang’s eyes widened as he felt a black smoky mana swiftly attacking him.
Usually, except for Ryuk’s attacks that he himself allowed to happen, he never let his guard down, learning a lesson, from a sword wound on his chest.
But he was shocked to see how that black smoke ignored his defenses as if they were nothing. Even when he increased the mana density, he couldn’t seem to stop it.
In that moment, a genuine smile formed on his face upon seeing the image of His Lord in Ryuk Von Selvius.
SWISH
Slowly, the black smoky mana subsided as a dark black liquid-like substance entered his body through his nose, eyes, and ears, making him look horrible before everything fell silent.
“Now, you will answer my questions or want to go through some maintenance?”
Wang, who was busy analyzing his body by running his mana inside, trying to find any mark or clue to remove the slave seal, felt on his body, heard Ryuk’s words.
He came out of his dilemma and, looking at Ryuk’s calm face, couldn’t help but sigh. “My… old bones can’t go through pain. Please ask anything, Young Master.”
Hearing Wang’s words, Ryuk’s mouth twitched at his shamelessness, as even in the past, he made the same excuse after losing to him.
‘Wait, what’s this man’s age?’
Suddenly, Ryuk got curious.
‘System, what is Wang’s age?’
[ Exactly, he is 6735 years old ]
‘What!’
His eyes were filled with shock as he looked towards the man before calming down, as he would eventually find out everything.
If he wanted, he could have seen Wang’s status, but just like in his previous life, it only had hidden informations. So, he didn’t waste his time again.
“Tell me everything about the Ardoros Continent and my life. Why am I here?”
He genuinely wanted an answer. It was not just the 26 years he lived in this world but a total of 50 years, including his past life.
Now, he was understanding that his 26 years were a facade.
Wang looked at Ryuk before sighing as felt helpless before started to tell him everything:
“My real name is Wyrnith. I am from the Fyrinthea continent. But let’s leave my identity for another time. So, from the basics, this planet where we are known as Blue Star.
Here, several continents exist, and the Princess is from one of the strongest continents on this planet — the Ardoros Continent.
There are four major families on Ardoros, they are all referred to as Guardians. Among them, there exists one of the pillars that hold the very balance of Ardoros Continent— Devereux family
You and the Princess belong to this honorable family, and you are here to live a peaceful life that your mother has sacrificed everything for.”
Hearing Wang’s words, Ryuk couldn’t help but feel inexplicable emotions churning up inside him, but he waited to hear more.
“Young Master, there is a tradition in the Devereux family about choosing an heir through long-lasting battles among flagbearers. Your mother and her two sisters stood among several flagbearers and killed all the others to claim their official position as legal heirs. But the moment the Princess had to go against her two sisters, you arrived in this world.
And to protect you, she stepped down from the battle of heirs, and following her path, both other Princesses stepped down as well, making the choice of heirs based on your current generation.”
Ryuk first felt surprised about such revelation and about his father thing that wang didn’t mentioned, he didn’t care about who his real father was, cause , for him, that Man had abandoned his mother and him at the most important moment of their life.
“Now, why did you take Edward from here?” Ryuk asked, wanting to find the reason for the sudden interference of external forces when he was on the brink of killing Edward.
“I told you about the four major families, right? Among them is the Abernathy Family, and that boy’s full name is Edward Abernathy.”
Ryuk’s eyes widened, still filled with many doubts, but one thing was clear: There are many secrets hidden behind the shadows that will be revealed soon and about Edward thing, he didn’t surprised much as, what can one expect from ,’ Son of heaven’.
