Chapter 1386: Fabian and Malenna
Ning frowned at the sight of the young man bowing so deeply in front of him. This was why he didn’t like interacting with the youths of his family.
They treated him like some godly figure instead of just a regular great uncle. They bowed and flattered him all the time.
Jasmine and Tim were both a couple of steps back from the young man Fabian, looking at him in shock. They could not imagine how someone had arrived out of nowhere.
And given the language the young man was speaking, they were certain that he wasn’t from anywhere around here at all.
To their surprise, Ning was speaking the same language as well, something neither of them could understand.
“Don’t bow to me,” Ning said quickly. “Get up, and don’t call me great uncle either. Call me… just sir. Sir is fine.”
Ning produced a small ring out of nowhere and gave it to the young man who put it on as he stood up. Once he did, Ning looked to the other two.
“This is a relative of mine. He will take care of the children while we are gone,” Ning told Jasmine and Tim.
The young man Fabian looked at Ning with a confused look. “Look after kids, gr— Sir?” he asked.
“Yes, there are about 8 children that live in this house. Your job is to look after them for a year,” Ning said.
Fabian looked around the buildings, slowly nodding to himself as he did so. “Is this an actual home? Why is it so rundown?”
“You’re in a different place from where you come from, Fabian. You shouldn’t judge things by what you are used to,” Ning said. Although, it was true that this place was quite rundown, even by this world’s standard.
“I see,” Fabian said. “And I am to look after kids? I should warn you, Sir, I cannot access my Qi at this moment.”
“You won’t have access to Qi at all here,” Ning said. “You are going to have to take care of the kids on your own.”
“Umm, can I request that you bring my wife here too? I don’t know if I want to stay here all alone,” Fabain said before quickly turning to Ning. “Unless that is what you are requesting of me.”
Ning swirled his palm and a beautiful young woman in a stark white robe with a long flowing skirt appeared before them all.
She reacted the same way as Fabian did, only her bow was a lot more graceful.
“How may I be of help, great Ancestor?” the woman asked.
If Ning remembered correctly, this young woman was an outsider that Fabian married and brought back to their small family and had been staying there ever since.
Was she a princess? Ning believed she was. He forgot what country she was from though. Countries on earth changed every few centuries or millennia, and it was too much for him to care about.
Emma would know. She knew everything about Earth.
“Malenna, right?” Ning asked the woman.
“Yes, great Ancestor,” She said, still bowing.
“Call me Sir,” Ning said. “And stand up. I have a job for you two.”
Ning explained the work and handed another ring to the woman. The ring would help them understand the many languages of this world, as well as inform them of the laws and regular common sense of this world. There were books inside the rings that they could later read on.
“Once the kids return, we should be ready to leave,” Ning told Jasmine.
Jasmine was still shaken from the sudden appearance of two humans out of nowhere, both of whom looked almost majestic. If she didn’t know any better, she would’ve started calling these two gods for how they looked.
The two husband and wife started taking extensive notes from Jasmine on what to do and what to remember.
Jasmine ended up telling them everything, surprised as she hadn’t even fully made the decision to leave with Ning and Tim, but it appeared that the decision had been made for her.
After a while, she talked to Ning. “I… I think I still have to go talk to my creditor and see if I can let him know that I’m not running away. I need to make sure the oath doesn’t accidentally haunt me in the end.”
Ning looked at the outside sky which was about 2 in the afternoon. “We have about 3 hours before we leave. Can we go talk to them now? If it’s close, we should be able to go and come back in time to say goodbye to the kids in a while. I’m sure you will need to take some time since you’ll be going away for a while.”
“A year, right?” she asked.
“Depends on how I do,” Ning said. “Shouldn’t take more than a year, but can also be done in a matter of weeks if I’m lucky.”
“And you still think I’ll get my money? Just to remind you, I’m still nearly 53 bricks of gold away from paying back everything.”
Ning nodded and sighed. “That was a stupid choice you made,” he said.
“I did it for the kids,” Jasmine said with a small shrug.
“I understand,” Ning said. “So, should we go? Do they live close by?”
“My creditor lives in the town over. We should be able to take a carriage or a car, and we can be there in about half an hour,” she said. ‘We should leave now.”
Ning nodded and turned back at Tim who was talking to Fabian and Malenna, trying to figure out anything about them. Perhaps, he was even trying to see if they were real humans in the first place.
“Tim, you coming?” Ning asked. “We’re going to the man with the chalice.”
Tim’s ears perked up at the words. “The chalice? Yes, I want to go.”
“Great,” Ning said and turned to Jasmine. “Let us leave.”
They left the house and made their way to the other city.
