Chapter 1467: Deduction
Jasmine woke up early in the morning, bleary-eyed, and yawned before walking outside. She freshened up and walked outside, going to the tube from where she could pass down a note to order some coffee or tea.
She passed it down and sat on the couch waiting. She waited and waited, but nothing came.
She frowned and walked up to the tube once again before passing down the note. And yet, nothing came after waiting for a while once again.
“What are you doing?” Tim asked, walking out of his room.
“Waiting for coffee, but they’re not sending,” she said.
“Try again maybe?” he said.
“I did, twice now,” she said.
“Then just ask the guards. They should be able to get it to you,” he said and went into the bathroom to freshen up.
Jasmine walked to the door and opened it to do as Tim suggested, but when she looked outside, there was no guard.
“The hell?” she thought. Did she have to go down all the way to ask for coffee? She didn’t want to. She would have Tim do it.
She sat on the couch and waited for Tim to come out.
Tim walked out and sighed. “There was so much sound early morning today. What the hell was happening outside?” he asked.
“There was?” she asked. “I… didn’t hear anything.”
“It was muffled by the walls, but it sounded like people fought outside,” he said.
“They always fight. That’s all they can do,” Jasmine said. “Anyway, can you get coffee from downstairs? There’s no guard at the door to order.”
“Why must I?” Tim asked.
“Because you’re younger than me,” she said. “You need to listen to me.”
Tim sighed. He was about to leave when he remembered. “Oh, right. Did you hear about it yet?” he asked. “We have the 9th treasure.”
Jasmine’s eyes narrowed. “What?” she asked.
“The 9th treasure. It’s in my room. Wait,” he said and quickly rushed to his room before walking with the book and the flute.
Jasmine was dumbfounded to realize that an exchange of treasures had happened while they were asleep. They hadn’t even bothered waking her up for it.
“So… that’s 9?” she asked.
“Yep, we only have one last remaining,” Tim said.
“Is this the one we don’t know? Or is this the one that belongs to Yolan? How did Stillwater come across this?” Jasmine asked.
Tim shrugged. “I don’t know,” he said. The truth could be anything.
“Stillwater wouldn’t tell how she got that,” Tony said as he yawned and walked out of the room. “Ning says that’s enough information to know how she got it though.”
Tim and Jasmine asked a few more questions to Tony and got all the information they could.
“So she got it from someone, right? If she didn’t know this belonged to Yolan, then she could not have stolen it from him,” Jasmine said.
“Yes, but… who gave it to her? Why is she trying to hide that person’s identity?” Tim asked. “Could that person be someone important to her? Like her lover?”
Jasmine thought for a moment. “Could be,” she said. “But there’s a greater possibility.”
Tim looked at her curiously. “What?” he asked.
“That person could be a VIP guest at her hotel, just like us. And she wouldn’t betray the name of someone like that, would she?”
Tim’s eyes widened slightly. “Ooh! Do you think it’s one of the other people who live in the penthouses?” he asked. “Isn’t there like 3 penthouses? How do you get to the other 2?”
“I think you have to go all the way down,” Jasmine said.
Tim thought for a moment. “Do you think this is the last person with a treasure?” he asked.
“I… don’t know,” Jasmine said.
“I mean, think about it. How could someone steal from a pirate captain from his lair?” Tim asked. “He has to have a treasure, right?”
Jasmine thought for a moment, coming closer and closer to believing that to be the truth. “Let’s go down. You get us some coffee. I’ll look through their registration while you distract them.”
Tim nodded and then went down the stairs. Tim walked causally down the stairs, while Jasmine made sure to not make a single sound.
They arrived at the bottom floor and Tim looked for the man that would always be at the front. Surprisingly, he wasn’t there at all.
That wouldn’t have been as surprising, had someone else been there. But the place was entirely empty. No one was around the place.
“We’re lucky,” Tim said softly. “I’ll go to the back. You check things here.”
Jasmine quickly moved behind the counters and started searching for registers discreetly. She found the one where Ning had written down their information and quickly found another two penthouse’s information.
One of the penthouses was completely empty, while the other one had someone in it named Darkwind, a completely made-up name.
‘Damn it! It doesn’t tell how many,’ Jasmine thought. She would have to check on her own at some point.
She knew the guards would switch their places at the door at some point, and she could sneak in at that…
A thought occurred to her at that moment. There was nobody in front of their penthouse right now. What if… there were no guards in front of this penthouse too?
‘I’ll have to check this,’ Jasmine thought and quickly stood up to leave when she suddenly slipped and fell to the ground. She quickly brought herself up and heard sounds, so she stopped so she made no noise.
A group of pirates walked in through the front door, carrying a very badly wounded man. They walked past the register, going to the back as blood dripped all across the floor.
Jasmine looked at the trail of blood the man left and followed it all the way right next to where she had slipped.
She had slipped on blood.
She took a deep breath as fear gripped her. She couldn’t tell what had happened here.
