Chapter 1503: A New Magic
After Ning was done completely absorbing Langoris’ energy, he moved back to the planet, arriving amongst the refugees outside, next to the old woman.
“Aah!” the old woman shouted, cursing at Ning. To her, he was a ghost who could disappear and come back just as he wished.
She was standing at the moment, trying to see what had happened in the city. There was no doubt she and the others hadn’t heard the commotion by now.
Ning hadn’t exactly been covert in his mission.
Ning smiled at the old woman, who continued muttering curses at him, slowly backing away. “I thought you would like to watch me bring the heat back.”
“Devil! Go away!” she shouted.
Ning ignored her and conversed with his system. “How do I go about this aura now?” he asked the System. “Can I absorb it perhaps?”
“Oh! Can I make it act like an energy of my choice? Have it give others powers?” Ning asked.
“Hmm,” Ning thought for a moment. “I will definitely do that if I can, but I’ll have to think about it some more. Give me a moment.”
Ning felt the world grow still for a moment as he focused all his attention on this one task. Time was slowed for now and his perception of everything was fast, allowing him to think up to 10 times faster than regular.
He went through a few iterations of powers, but one thing was constant which worried him.
It was the lack of energy to empower any type of magic he would leave behind. Meaning, it would have to be a simple magic system that did the barebones of stuff.
Another thing Ning thought was about giving only a certain group of people the ability to use this power, but that was a bad idea in his head.
Giving only select people the ability to get the upper hand on the rest of the population was a surefire way to establish unneeded hierarchy, as well as separation and segregation. As such, that was out of the question as well.
In the end, Ning came up with a very simple system of power.
The main thing he needed to keep in mind was that the Aura he left behind had to be constantly recycled. Meaning, it could not be stored in a core or sea within someone’s body.
That also meant that the aura could not be used to improve one’s body in any way.
Ning moved toward a knowledge aspect with his magic system, where the aura could be interacted with using magic circles that could be ever changed into doing what someone wanted.
However, when one made such a magic circle on a piece of paper, they would forever lose their understanding of that magic. And if they wanted to redraw it again, they would have to learn the sciences behind the magic all over again.
This would allow everyone to learn magic, while also limiting the number of magic users at the same time.
“Yeah, that’s it!” Ning thought. “System, do you know what I’m thinking?”
“Good. Let’s implement it then.”
Ning felt something escape from him, energy that was turned into some sort of aura. It was a vast amount of energy.
It spread throughout the people, quickly converting the aura in the surroundings into no longer making the people feel cold when the temperature was clearly not that low.
The people felt the weird change in temperature, and at first wondered if they were sick for some reason. They then wondered if Lagoris had left his place. The commotion did make it seem that way.
However, they quickly received the news that Langoris was gone, taken away by a youth that had arrived out of nowhere. People panicked at first, but the warmth was still there.
Everyone was alright, despite the lack of Langoris in the surroundings.
Confusion was abundant in the group of refugees. It wasn’t just them either. People from all around the world would be stunned at the moment, unable to comprehend just what was going on.
Ning finally took a deep breath when his System was done spreading the aura. It would take a day in total to reach all the deep recesses of the planet, but for the majority of the population, the heat should have been gone by now.
He turned around and found the old woman staring up at him in utter awe.
“You… you said you would bring back heat! Who… who are you?” she asked.
“Just someone passing by,” Ning said. “Take care.”
He teleported away, leaving the old woman behind. Once he was away, he quickly used his System to spread some news all around the world as to what exactly had happened.
Every single person gained the knowledge that Langoris was behind the cold and with his disappearance, the cold would never return.
Ning also told them about the magic that was now available to them. He had created thousands of nearly indestructible books for people to read for ages and ages to come.
These would be the books they would read to create magic circles that they would then forget about and would have to learn again.
Ning wished he could stay around to see what sort of world the magic he left behind would have created, but alas, he was on a mission.
He took one last look at the planet Caria and then opened a portal to go kill another Constellation.
