Reincarnated as an Energy with a System – Chapter 1541

Infiltration

Chapter 1541: Infiltration

Ning more than successfully completed his work, converting more than 80 blocks of rocks into air to release nearly 500 books. He also helped rearrange the books when necessary, but since they had been sorted properly from the start, not much work was needed at the end.

Once he completed his work, he left.

Ning went back to Lieutenant Harper reported having completed his work and asked if there was more for him to do.

“There is nothing for you to do, Chief Officer. You can—” the Lieutenant paused. She seemed to be in some deep thought and didn’t speak for a while.

Then, she looked up. “Chief Officer Ning, what happened to your clothes from your days as a Cadet?” she asked.

“My cadet uniform? It is still in my home, lieutenant,” Ning said. “I haven’t thrown it away or given it to someone else.”

“Good. Then I might have a small task for you today,” she said and brought out something. She handed the clipboard over to Ning.

Ning looked at the clipboard, another task written on it.

‘Why doesn’t this woman just use the Data Core to begin with? She has to enter it all into the system later on anyway,’ Ning thought. He wasn’t stupid enough to say that out loud.

He read the task that he was assigned and raised an eyebrow.

The mission was for someone to infiltrate a small organization in City 3 and try to discern where they were getting their resources from.

As he read, he realized that there had been some drug activity in that city. Previously, due to the sheer chaos of the migration, the drug problem hadn’t been noticed, but now that things had calmed down, it was a big enough problem that needed to be dealt with.

“I am to infiltrate these people?” Ning asked.

“Get close, however you can,” the Lieutenant said. “We just need confirmation as to whether they share drugs or just consume them. Depending on the findings, we will have to set up appropriate force to squash them down.”

Ning nodded. “Why did you need my cadet uniform, Lieutenant? Wouldn’t it be better for me to go as a civilian?” he asked.

“No, a Cadet,” the girl said. “I have a feeling they will look into your background before they let you close. If you show up in normal uniform and they find out you’re a Cadet, you’ll never find anything.”

“But if you go as a cadet, and they find out you are a cadet, then you won’t have lied to them,” the woman said. “If you can sell that you are only there to buy drugs and will even help them if needed, they should let you into their organization.”

“That’s… not a bad idea,” Ning said. “But what about my current rank? It has already been updated to the correct one.”

“Then that works too,” the woman said. “If they find out you are a Chief Officer, then they have the latest information. Which would mean that we have a traitor in the military. We can then use them to weed out who that is.”

Ning raised an eyebrow. “I’ll do it, Lieutenant,” he said. “Should I go right away?”

“Whenever you can,” Harper said. “You do not need to report to me until you’ve completed this mission. Understood?”

“Yes, Lieutenant,” Ning said.

“Good. You may leave.”

Ning finally saluted the woman again and left the place, leaving the lieutenant’s place. He visited the cafeteria to have some food before going back to his place.

He pulled out the cadet uniform, with the Cadet mark sewn into it. He had only just put it away yesterday, and now he had to wear it again.

Ning sighed. When would he not have to hide his rank so he could do things?

After changing into his Cadet uniform, Ning took a vial of Spark and left for City 3.

The way to City 3 was on a small tram-like cart that was pulled by power crystals, through long tracks that were laid into the street. Ning got onto one of those, paying a small fee to take him to the other city.

The tram moved slowly, going through the busy streets. It took nearly 10 minutes for the tram to reach the other side of the city, where it passed the giant hole in the wall that led to the other cities.

Ning saw City 3 again, quickly locating where his house was. As he had been from City 3 according to his records, he had been allowed to own both a home in City 3 and a place in City 0, the Military City.

He was still not used to seeing the city be so similar to the one they left in Zoultan. Everything about the place was nearly the same, which almost made him forget that he was on a different celestial body altogether.

Ning got off the tram sometime later. However, instead of going to his house immediately, he went over to a tea shop that he could see from the side.

He had been given all the information the military had about the organization, which was a pitiful amount really.

All they knew were a few people that they knew were working together. The organization, or whatever, consisted of these people, and Ning’s job was to infiltrate the place by becoming friends with them.

Ning didn’t believe it to be a very good idea, but what else could he do? Maybe he could do something, but he would have to wait for things to occur before doing whatever he felt would be needed.

He had to wait for the opportunity for now.

Ning went over to the tea shop and ordered a cup of tea. He waited and was quickly served a cup, which he began drinking almost immediately.

The tea wasn’t as good as what he got every morning in the cafeteria, but it was good enough.

Now that he had the tea, it was time to get working.
