Chapter 1569: Surrounded
All lights in the ceiling were off during the night and even the stores around the place had been shut down, their lights shutting down along with them.
The streets lacked people as only a couple at most walked this late at night. This was the time when the entire city shut down.
The leader was used to such a time. He had done this a hundred different times, coming out late enough that there were not many people, but early enough that their presence wouldn’t be questioned.
The place where they made Dust and where they took it to other locations were different places, so they had to walk all the way there.
As soon as they walked past just a single house, multiple people came running out from all sides, each one holding a long wooden staff, and wearing a military uniform.
The leader and everyone else immediately got scared and nervous. Many of them immediately took out Sparks, ready to consume them.
“Swini Milios! Do not make any sudden move or our soldiers will attack you,” a woman’s voice came from the group that had suddenly surrounded them.
The leader’s face was a mask of anger and confusion as he stared at the many people that surrounded him. He stared in the direction of the voice and saw a woman appear from that direction.
It was a woman wearing a military uniform with the badge ‘Captain’ prominently showing on it.
‘Fuck!’ he thought. He had been surrounded by a Captain and her army. He looked around, trying to see a way out, but there was none. At least, not on his own.
The woman walked toward him, and he knew that he needed to act quickly. He could already feel people trying to probe into his mind, trying to read his thoughts.
‘Get out of my damn head!’ he screamed, as well as one could scream in their mind.
He tried his best to not think about what he was going to do next, waiting for the final moment when he would do so.
“How did you locate me?” he asked Redaime. “Who gave me up?”
“Gave you up?” Redaime asked, raising her eyebrows. “Do you think we would need someone to give you up for us to find you? But it is interesting that you think that. I shouldn’t be so surprised.”
Her eyes moved past him to look at the two men behind him.
Redaime’s face was filled with hatred at seeing them. “You two are not going to like what is coming for you.”
“C-Captain Redaime!” the young man next to Nirun spoke. “My father—”
“Your father is going to lose his status starting today. We have all the evidence required to link him to Dust production. Same for Captain Dalaan. None of you are going to get out of this with ease.”
The young man’s face fell, completely unable to form a single other word.
Nirun, on the other hand, had completely given up the moment every soldier here had shown up. In fact, he had given up since the moment he woke up today.
He had been told that today would be his last free day in this world, and it appeared that he hadn’t been lied to. Just as the man had said, he was going to be arrested.
The leader simply watched the group, his mind unable to come up with what needed to be done.
Suddenly, light flared up from his right as Karina blasted fire directly at the Captain. She had managed to slip some Spark into herself using whatever opportunity she had found and used her Burner power.
The Captain did nothing. There were soldiers around her who were already manipulating the ground to create a cover for her and the others.
“Attack them!” the leader shouted, realizing this was their one chance. “Now!”
The other woman of the group and the General’s son took some Spark at the same time and used their powers as well.
The woman created a blast of air, and the son created a blast of water.
The leader took a lot of Spark at once and turned toward the Carver. “Get us out of here,” he shouted.
Nirun looked at the leader and simply did nothing. He had no will to fight against this. What was he going to do? That man would come back and stop him again.
“Can you fucking hear me? I said get us out of here!” the leader shouted.
“There’s no point,” Nirun said. “You can’t get away from him. Just give up.”
“What the fuck are you saying?” the leader demanded. “Get us the fuck out of here.”
Nirun did nothing. That angered the leader.
He had consumed so much Spark and it flowed through him, like fire flowing through his veins. In anger, he reached out to Nirun to turn him into stone.
However, before he could touch Nirun, a hand grabbed his wrist, stopping him just a sliver away from Nirun’s skin.
The leader looked to the side and saw Ning, thinking that he was no one important but just some soldier who had managed to slip through. He twisted his palm and touched Ning’s arm, using the power on him.
The power of Spark flowed out of him and into the hand that touched him. He didn’t make him stone like he did everyone though. He wanted to be more violent.
He made the hand turn into air, both to make the man disappear from here and to get his hands free.
However, to the man’s surprise, that didn’t happen at all. Ning did not turn into air at all.
“What? How could that—”
“Did you really forget me that easily?” Ning asked. “After I threw the equivalent of a wrecking ball into your world?”
The leader looked at Ning. “Who are y—”
His eyes widened. The uniform had made it hard to recognize him, but hearing his voice made him remember. This was the man who had come to them with the power to turn anything into Dust.
He was the man that he had killed just a week ago.
So… how was he still alive?
