Chapter 1571: Arrested
All 10 cities were in constant stir as news spread around about the most absurd thing they had ever heard.
The people involved in making and spreading Dust were captured, the main perpetrator of which was a man in his late 20s by the name of Swini Milios.
The fact that Dust would now go off-street was fantastic news for many and horrible news for a select few. However, the thing that made the story even more bizarre was the fact that certain individuals from the military were involved in this.
A General by the name of Cord and his son, as well as a Captain by the name of Dalaan, had been captured as individuals involved in supplying the criminals with ingredients to make Dust.
Many people cheered for the great work of Captain Redaime who had done the job of capturing the criminals, going so far as capturing her own General.
However, a few people began questioning if the Military should be allowed to have all the powers in the city. How many more times did they have to go through a corrupt officer or soldier before they learned that maybe they needed to change the current system?
Of course, those thoughts went nowhere as the power still belonged to the military, and it was impossible for it to transfer to anyone in the near future.
Ning arrived at Lieutenant Harper’s office and saluted her. “Lieutenant Harper, I have come to report my mission’s completion.”
Harper looked at Ning with a strange look and sighed. “You are a Lieutenant too, Ning. You don’t have to salute me.”
“Not yet,” Ning said. “I haven’t gone through the ceremony just yet. Until then, I will continue to salute you.”
“Still, I shouldn’t be getting saluted. I’m happy that you managed to complete the task so fabulously, but I was wrong to send you out there. I got chewed on by the Captain when she learned what I did.”
Harper seemed to be incredibly worried.
“I’ll try to convince her that it was a good thing that you did what you did,” Ning said. “Without you, I wouldn’t have known about Dust or been able to capture them.”
“You didn’t know about Dust before this?” Harper asked with disbelief. “Did you seriously go from not knowing about Dust to capturing the suppliers in less than 10 days?”
Ning shrugged. “I think it was 11 days.”
Harper shook her head. That was not the important thing. She was about to say something when her room was immediately swarmed by a group of people, all of which had long staffs on them.
“Who are you people? What are you—”
Harper’s tongue immediately stopped moving when she saw who had come in. While most of the people who had come were normal soldiers, mostly officers or Chief Officers, there were multiple lieutenants in the group as well.
Ning looked around, realizing that it was him being surrounded. His eyes narrowed.
“Chief Officer Ning?” one of the men at the front asked.
“That is me,” Ning said.
“You are being arrested. You will have to come with us,” the man said.
Ning raised his eyebrows. “May I know why?” he asked.
“You will know why soon,” the man said, gesturing the others to capture him.
Ning was curious about what was happening. He didn’t understand why anyone would want to capture him. Also, why wasn’t Redaime here to stop this from happening? Did she not know this was happening?
Ning went with them without fighting back. He wanted to see where this was going.
They took him to an elevator that took him down to the floor level. Then, they made him walk to a large building in the corner of the city.
Ning looked at the building, wondering where he was exactly. The place looked well-built and expensive, but there was no name at the front to let him know what it was for.
But considering the amount of soldiers that were at the guard and at every other step, Ning was certain this was an important location for the military.
He was taken to the building, up two flights of stairs, and finally pushed in through a large metal door to a wide room with a tall ceiling.
Ning wanted to look at the room he was in, but the people that were in there surprised him. The very first person he saw was a General. Then he looked to the side and saw a Captain.
Another General then another two Captains. Then a Major.
The Major was an old woman with graying hair, but still sitting tall with an aloof face.
Ning looked at the front and his eyes widened when he saw the badge on the middle-aged man with a thick black beard.
Major General.
This man was the highest authority in all of this world and Ning was brought before this man as a criminal. Why was that?
Redaime was to the side, sitting in the front row of seats. She didn’t turn around to look at Ning.
Ning recognized another female Captain next to her. It was the Captain that had ‘captured’ him when he first arrived in this world. She and her group were leaving the tunnels to go to the outside for one last expedition.
“He’s here. We can continue now,” one of the Generals said and turned toward the Major General.
The Major General sat behind a large desk as if he were a judge waiting to look at the criminal that was brought in.
‘Wait, is this a courthouse?’ Ning thought as he finally paid attention to the room.
The two columns of seats on either side with multiple rows of seats, and the one standing at the front was the highest authority in the room.
If this wasn’t a courtroom, then he didn’t know what was. And he had been brought here as a criminal.
“Chief Officer Ning,” the Major General said. “Please take a seat so we may proceed.”
