Reincarnated as an Energy with a System – Chapter 1661

Weakness

Chapter 1661: Weakness

The thought that the soldier was a corpse worried Ning. The fact that he was armored up, having most of his weak points protected, terrified him.

How did you fight a man who had no weakness?

Ning wasn’t sure at the moment. He didn’t have the luxury to think either.

He dodged the sword just before it attacked him and created a barrier above it to make it harder to pull. He was about to attack back, regardless of how useful it was, when he noticed movement from the side.

He turned around and noticed another soldier coming down at him.

He created a barrier, stopping the attack right before it landed on him. The sword slammed onto the barrier and Ning went around the soldier, stabbing him in the back.

He pulled the spear out and it came out bloodless. Once again, it was not a living man at all inside of that suit, but rather a corpse.

Ning’s eyes moved to the other 7 soldiers who made their way toward him at that very moment. Were… they all corpses as well?

Ning took a deep breath. He didn’t know how he was going to kill a group of soldiers that couldn’t die at all. The best he could do was immobilize them, but that needed him to cut at their shin or their tendons, neither of which his spear could reach at the moment.

Ning created a barrier to his left, stopping one soldier’s attack while he stopped to the right to dodge the attack from the soldier on the right.

He created a small barrier next to him and stepped on it as he jumped to dodge a horizontal swing. He created another barrier above him and landed on it, right beyond the reach of the soldiers.

He took heavy breaths once he landed and looked around, trying to think of what to do. He saw the crowd, looking at him with awe. He saw the soldier who stood by the carriage, seemingly curious about the outcome— an actual human.

Ning saw the man, halfway between amused and annoyed. He was looking forward to when this all was done. Finally, he looked at the old woman, who seemed to have lost all words as her face was entirely pale.

She wanted to help, but there was nothing she could do besides tell the future.

Ning looked back at the Earl. The old woman had predicted it would all end in pain for him. Ning would make sure to let that happen.

The soldiers tried reaching for Ning, but even with their swords, Ning was a bit too high. “Some of you, climb on each other!” the Earl shouted. “One of you, go get me the girl.”

The soldiers followed his orders and immediately a few of them knelt down to let the others climb on top of them.

‘Shit!’ Ning thought, trying to think more of what he could do here.

He created a larger barrier below him atop the soldiers, like a lid on a pan, stopping the water from boiling over. He jumped down to the lower barrier, and rolled to the side, falling onto the ground, next to the one soldier that was moving toward the house.

The soldier swung his sword at the same time, but Ning’s agile body was too much for the soldier. Ning easily dodged the spear and began attacking. He didn’t know how many stabs it would take to immobilize the corpse, but he was planning on doing it as many times as it would take.

So long as he kept stabbing the back, the corpse should get torn in half and no longer function as well, right?

Ning had only stabbed the corpse a few times when the corpse, swung its sword around, trying to cleave at him. Ning ducked, dodging the swing, and looked up. As he did, he saw the slit through which a soldier was supposed to see.

A corpse had no need for a visor, so Ning made use of it instead. His spear moved imperceptibly and accurately, hitting the corpse right through the visor, and stabbing into its brains.

Ning had no clue if stabbing the brain would kill a corpse or not, but this was the only opening he could attack out front, so he had to try.

He stabbed twice before moving back and then immediately ducked as another soldier came for him. He created a barrier behind him next, just enough to let him see if stabbing a brain would work or not.

He watched what the corpse did next, and to his dismay, it moved, swinging its sword around again.

‘What the fuck!’ Ning thought. Even stabbing a brain wasn’t enough to kill a resurrected human? Then what was? Was Shara the only answer?

The corpse swung its sword around, trying to come at him to cut him. Ning tried to dodge but from what he could see, he didn’t need to dodge.

The sword swing easily missed him, allowing him time to attack him. He stabbed through the visors once again, damaging what was already damaged.

The corpse swung its sword once again, and this time Ning realized that there was a change to the corpse. It wasn’t a big change, but one that was massive enough to turn the tide of the battle.

The corpse who had been stabbed through the visor could no longer see at all.

‘They’re blind!’ Ning thought. ‘If they’re stabbed, they go blind.’

That was what Ning realized. And given the evidence, he was pretty sure he was correct.

Two things were made apparent immediately to Ning.

First, Corpses could see. Whether the rest of the senses worked or not would have to be checked separately, but sight alone worked.

Second, since they could see, it could be taken away as well. A corpse without eyes was as good as a blind man. It could attack aimlessly, but never accurately.

If the same was to be done to the rest of the corpses, then…

Ning had a new plan in mind.
