Reincarnated as an Energy with a System – Chapter 1672

Horses

Chapter 1672: Horses

Ning and Shara left their room around the evening, wearing dark hoods that they got from a random shop they came across.

Ning didn’t immediately want to use an invisibility scroll, so they resorted to it. Still, he had the scroll in his hand the entire time should they need it.

As they approached the broken gates of the cities, they saw a large line as people were being stopped and questions. Those who walked around with any sort of full-body gowns were being asked to show their arms. Those with head coverings were forced to take them off.

‘They’re searching for us,’ Shara said with a whisper.

Ning nodded. ‘How much energy do you have again?’ he asked.

‘Plenty,’ Shara said. ‘I don’t know why. Those corpses had a lot of energy.’

‘So we can go through the wall?’ he asked.

‘Oh yes,’ she said.

They left to the side of the road, entering an alleyway. Ning even saw the woman commander in the distance right before he entered. She seemed to be in a greatly terrible mood because of them.

He could, in a way, understand what she was going through. They were sent here to kill Shara, and instead, the Earl had died and they had nothing to show for it. The amount of problems that woman was going to get in when she returned was enormous.

She was most likely hoping they would come by soon.

Unfortunately, for her, they would not.

Ning and Shara walked until they arrived close to a solid wall where security would be the least. Shara grabbed Ning’s arm and pulled as the two of them seamlessly passed through the wall.

Ning remained in the darkness of the thick wall for a moment before he saw light. Immediately, he started looking around to see where he had come to and if there were people around.

There weren’t any people around, but there were horses around. It seemed they had arrived at a stable or something. It stank like it at least.

The horses neighed, making noises at the sight of them. They didn’t seem wary of newcomers.

“Let’s get out of here no—”

“What’s wrong? Why are you all crying again?” an old man walked into the stable, and seemed surprised to see Ning and Shara.

He looked at the two with wide eyes. “Thief! Horse thieves! You bastards dare try and steal my horses?” he shouted, grabbing onto a piece of stick to come to attack them.

But before he could get too close, Ning moved, pointing his spear directly at the man’s neck. It even pricked him a little, forcing him to let go of the stick and begin sweating heavily.

“Do not scream. Do not cry,” Ning said softly and put down the spear. “We are no thieves. We have come here to purchase your horse.”

“Wh-what?” the man asked. “Are you not bandits?”

“Do I look like a bandit to you?” Ning asked.

The man wouldn’t have been wrong to nod, but he shook his head instead. “No, no you don’t.”

Ning nodded and looked toward the horses. “We are here to buy two of your horses. Give us the best ones,” he said.

“M-m-my lord. These horses are not for sale. They are my horses for my—”

Ning slammed his spear on the ground. “I have come to purchase them. They are for sale. Or do you want to disagree?”

The man gulped deeply, shaking his head. “I-i-I will sell them, my lord,” he said.

“Two of the best,” Ning said. “Prepare them and some food for the horses on the way. Their journey will be a long one.”

“Right away, my lord,” the man said, leaving to gather a few things.

“We should leave right away,” Shara said. “He might bring guards with him.”

“Maybe,” Ning said, clutching the invisibility scroll tightly. He would use it at any moment if he felt he was being lied to.

The man returned a while later and presented a small sack to Ning. “Here, my lord. Some things for the horses to chew on in their journey. They are well-raised horses, so you can stop them to feed some grass here and there until you reach the next town over.”

Ning nodded. He took the bag from the man and let it go. Suddenly, the bag vanished, making the old man fear Ning a lot more than he had before.

Before, Ning was just someone with a weapon. Now, he was someone with a power. And the old man knew better than to tread lightly with someone who had powers.

He felt good that he hadn’t gone to find the guards. He did not know what would’ve happened to him should he have gone to get them.

“I will prepare the horses,” he said and pulled out 2 horses. “They are not horses meant for riding. I have one saddle only, but I fear that may not be enough for you.”

“These horses aren’t for riding?” Ning asked.

“No, they pull carts, my lord,” the man said.

“So you have carts here?” Ning asked.

“I do,” the man said.

“I will purchase that,” Ning said.

“My lord… they are carts. Not carriages. They are a simple—”

“I am aware of what a cart is,” Ning said. “You do not need to look out for me. Just prepare it and tell me the price.”

The old man nodded and prepared the cart, tying the two horses to the front. Once it was ready, he gave Ning a tiny whip.

“Will a person come to help you ride, my lord?” the old man asked.

Ning didn’t answer. “How much for them?” he asked. “And do not try to oversell them.”

“I wouldn’t,” the man said quickly.

“And don’t undersell them either. Tell me the correct price.”

The old man was a little surprised. “The correct price for 2 horses and the cart would be… 80 Silver coins, my lord,” he said.

“Done!”

Ning brought out 1 Gold coin and 30 Silver coins and tossed them to the old man. He got onto the cart and nodded toward the old man.

“Pleasure doing business with you.”
