Meng Huo let out a wry smile as he stared at Sydney. “W-what do you mean by that?” Sydney asked with her mouth agape. “You see, miss Sydney, my life and young master Eru’s life are linked. To free me from Zhu Rong’s influence, master Long here linked our souls together before transferring the bonds to young master Eru”, Meng Huo explained. “H-huh? So your life was linked with Long and then linked with teacher Eru? Is that it? I don’t quite get it”, Sydney slightly tilted her head while rubbing her chin.
“Haha”, Meng Huo chuckled, “It is a bit complicated in how it works. To be honest, I don’t quite understand it myself” he began to laugh heartily. The armoured woman and the blue-haired female soldier approached Meng Huo, Sydney and Long, “Are you guys alright?” the armoured woman asked. “We are fine”, Long answered while looking at the dissipating smoke. The armoured woman noticed Long’s gaze, “You wondered about Eru?” she asked. Long looked at the armoured woman, “I’m sure he would be fine.” The armoured woman let out a smile, “I’m sure he is.” Sydney scratched the back of her head, “So, what should we do now?” Meng Huo sat back down, “I’m going to wait here for young master Eru.”
Long nodded, leaning on a nearby tree, “I’m going to wait with him here too.” Sydney stabbed her blade on the ground, “Then I’m staying too.” Long shook his head, “No, you should go back”, he said. “Why?” Sydney pouted, “Why are you always leaving me out?” Long shook his head, “You are clearly tired and weak”, Long said. Sydney glared at Long fiercely. Long let out a small chuckle, “Don’t believe me? Watch.” After that, Long disappeared from his spot and appeared behind Sydney. Then, Long poked Sydney on her neck, back and waist before the latter slumped down in pain. “Sydney!” the armoured woman and the blue-haired female soldier both exclaimed simultaneously. “Urgh”, Sydney groaned, “What did you do?”
Long chuckled while looking down at the dark-skinned woman before him, “You used brother Eru’s technique before, correct?” Sydney struggled to nod, “Yes, what about it?” Long’s lips curled up into a small smile, “Did brother Eru tell you about the side effect of his technique?” Sydney shook her head, “No. The one that taught me teacher Eru’s technique is Principal Helga.” Long furrowed his eyebrows, “Principal Helga?” The armoured woman nodded, “Yes. Before we departed here, all three of us were trained by Principal Helga personally. I learnt Double Coating, Amy here learnt Double Casting while Sydney learnt Eru’s personal technique.” The blue-haired female soldier nodded at the armoured woman’s explanation.
Long rubbed his chin, “Interesting”, he hummed, “Brother Eru never strikes me as a man that would tell others his technique. There must be something else going on”, Long softly muttered with a small grin on his face.
“So, did Principal Helga tell you about the side effect?” Long turned to look at Sydney. The latter shook her head, “No, I don’t think she did. After all, we did leave in a hurry.” Long crossed his arms, “Is that so? Well, let me tell you now. Brother Eru’s technique works amazing, right? You can suddenly increase your strength way beyond your current capabilities, correct?” Sydney nodded, “Yes”, she replied. “Don’t you think such a powerful technique did not have a drawback?” Long snickered. Sydney slightly lowered her head. “No answer, huh?” Long shook his head. The armoured woman slightly furrowed her eyebrows while the blue-haired female soldier opened her mouth, “So, tell us then.”
Long slightly raised his eyebrows at the blue-haired female soldier, “Tell you what?” Long said. “The drawback”, the blue-haired female soldier replied. “Oh”, Long scoffed; he pointed at the grunting Sydney on the ground, “As you can see from Sydney here, every time one used that technique, their bodies would be sore and full of pain for an entire day to a whole week depending on how stressful the situation is”, Long explained. “You mean to say—” the blue-haired female soldier furrowed her eyebrows. Long nodded, “Yes. Sydney here has been running and moving around with her body torn apart from the inside for this whole time.”
The armoured woman concernedly looked at Sydney, “Why don’t you tell us, Sydney?” Sydney slightly lowered her head, “Well, I don’t want to be the one who is a bother to anyone else, you know?” Long clicked his tongue, “Since you know about it, then do as you told. Go back with Syndra and that blue-haired female and recuperate. Don’t be a burden to us”, Long said harshly. The armoured woman frowned when she heard this, “You know, you are quite a rude person”, she said. “Hmph”, Long just scoffed before turning his attention towards the burning bunker. Meng Huo smiled wryly before crouching down, “Don’t take it to heart, miss Sydney. You know he meant well”, he said. Sydney shook her head, “I don’t care what he said, to be honest with you, senior Meng Huo.” After that, Meng Huo helped Sydney get back to her feet, “Alright, I’ll go back with Syndra and Amy”, Sydney said.
“Good”, Long crossed his arms. Then, Sydney was placed on the armoured woman’s back by Meng Huo, “Be careful on your way back”, Meng Huo said. The armoured woman and the blue-haired female soldier nodded at the same time before departing away from the bunker’s area. After confirming that Sydney, the armoured woman and the blue-haired female soldier truly left, Long immediately slumped to the ground. “Master Long”, Meng Huo yelled with worry. “I’m alright”, Long panted, “I’m just tired, that’s all”, he said with a little stutter. “Maybe you should go back with the girls, Master Long. Considering your condition”, Meng Huo suggested.
“And be considered as a weak, human being? No, thank you”, Long scoffed with a little disgust on his face. “Besides, what if brother Eru came out and needed help? I need to be there for him”, Long added softly under his breath. Meng Huo smiled upon hearing Long’s word. Then, Meng Huo sat beside Long before asking, “Master Long, may I ask you something?” Long slightly furrowed his eyebrows, “What do you want?” he grumbled. “Why would you risk so much for young master Eru, master Long?” Meng Huo asked. “None of your business”, Long said. Meng Huo shrugged, “I mean, you are a majestic red dragon, right? Why do so much for a mere human like young master Eru?” Long gritted his teeth, “Like I told you, it is none of your fucking business.”
Meng Huo sighed before slightly smirking, “I guess a human who got a favour from a red dragon is different from the rest of the humans. How lucky young master Eru must have been.” Long then glared at Meng Huo fiercely, “If you spoke one more bad word about brother Eru, I would kill you myself”, Long said with full killing intent. Meng Huo raised his hands up, “Alright, alright, I’m stopping”, Meng Huo said with a small smile. “Tch”, Long clicked his tongue in annoyance. “Ahh, I don’t know that you think of me so highly, Long; I’m touched”, suddenly, a voice resounded in the area, startling Long. “Brother Eru” Long exclaimed as a smile slowly formed on his face.
“Yo!” Eru emerged from the rubbles of the destroyed bunker with wounds all over his body. “Young master Eru”, Meng Huo bowed ninety degrees. “Yo”, Eru replied, “Where is everybody?” Eru asked after looking around his surroundings. “They’re all went back first. Sydney pushed herself too far with your technique”, Meng Huo answered after straightening up his posture. Eru slightly raised his eyebrows, “My technique?” Long nodded, “Yeah. The one where you multiplied your power severalfold.” Eru rubbed his chin, “Hmm, so she managed to learn Eruken in such a short time, huh. I’ve got to thank Aelgh for this one then”, he softly muttered.
“Aelgh? Who’s that?” Long slightly tilted his head. “Oh, I mean Principal Helga”, Eru scratched the back of his head. “Oh. By the way, may I ask why you did not escape with us earlier, brother Eru?” Long asked. “Sure”, Eru smiled, “It’s this.” Then, Eru revealed his left hand to Long and Meng Huo. “What is that?” Meng Huo squinted his eyes. “It’s a ring?” Long furrowed his eyebrows. “Yup”, Eru smiled while nodding, “And it is not just your everyday ring.” Meng Huo looked at the black ring on Eru’s left middle finger, “What did it do?” Eru smirked, “You want to know what this thing does?” Meng Huo nodded, “Of course. The curious soul inside me could not resist.”
Eru smiled before summoning his black sword, “As it turns out, there is a perfect subject for me to demonstrate what this black ring does. Come out!” Eru barked. Right after that, a bestial roar resounded from within the forest before a four-meter tall ogre came out from the sea of trees around Eru, Long and Meng Huo. “A mere ogre dare to challenge us?” Long said with disdain. “Perfect for a test subject”, Meng Huo smiled. Eru readied his stance, “En garde!”
