Chapter 231: Chapter 231
“Deddy, how is your end?” a bob cut, a ginger-haired woman, asked while fending off one man cloaked in black. “I’m almost done”, Deddy, who brandished his axe at another man cloaked in black, cleaving him in two, replied. “Ah!” the bob cut, a ginger-haired woman screamed as she stumbled down. “May!” Deddy yelled in worry. Immediately after, he disappeared from his spot and reappeared before the man cloaked in black, “Die!” Deddy swung his axe horizontally, cleanly cleaving the man in a black cloak in two. “You okay?” Deddy extended a helping hand to May, the ginger-haired woman.
“I’m fine”, May flashed a gentle smile as she grabbed Deddy’s hand, “Did you find it?” Deddy nodded, “Yes, I did.” May’s eyes turned serious, “Then we need to hurry up. Only a matter of time before your father’s men will send their reinforcements.” Deddy then proceeded to grab May, holding her in a princess carry. “Ah”, May gasped. “Hold on”, he said before mobilizing his aura into his entire body. After that, Deddy jetted away from the place, quickly escaping. In order to avoid pursuers, Deddy circled around the area first before zig-zagging away. After that, Deddy circled around another area again before zig-zagging away.
Then, Deddy brought May into an abandoned house, “Let’s hurry up and change”, Deddy said while handing a brown cloak to May. “Right”, May nodded before quickly wearing the brown cloak, covering her head and face. Deddy wore her cloak too before exiting the abandoned house, looking around his surroundings. “Clear”, Deddy said to May, who was still inside the abandoned house. “Hmm”, May nodded as the two blended in with their surroundings. As the two walked the streets of Sylphid City, they watched as soldiers were busy searching. “Remember”, said one of the soldiers, “Our perpetrators are a pair of men and women. Search for everyone in a pair and don’t let those thieves get away!” he barked.
“Yes, captain!” said the soldiers in unison. After that, the soldiers separated from themselves, forming a pair with each other. “You hear what they said?” Deddy asked softly under his breath. “I did”, May nodded her head, “We better split off, then.” Deddy shook his head, “No, that is precisely what they wanted. Don’t you see the way the captain barked his order?” May furrowed her eyebrows, but a pair of soldiers went past them when she was about to reply. May lowered her head while holding her cloak down. The pair of soldiers went back and forth before leaving the area. “You see?” Deddy said, “They passed us without batting an eye, right?” May nodded in realization, “Oh, I see. The captain barked on purpose.”
“That’s right. Normal people’s reactions would’ve been the same as the one you proposed earlier. They would’ve split up, and it would be easy for the soldiers to find them”, Deddy explained. “Nice insight”, May praised. “Heh”, Deddy smiled wryly, “Actually, I’ve done those tactics countless times to capture innocents.” May lowered her head before patting Deddy on his back, “Don’t be so down. What matters is right now. You can make it better in the future”, May said with a bright smile. Deddy sighed, “Maybe you are right. Maybe you are right”, he softly muttered. After their brief exchange, both Deddy and May blended in with the crowds, walking towards the Adventurers Guild.
Both Deddy and May took a quiet road, mixing with the crowded road in order to avoid suspicion, and they circled around the area first before making sure that they were not tailed. After that, Deddy and May circled the area once more before going inside the Adventurers Guild. Once inside, both Deddy and May hurriedly took off their cloak before changing their attire. As they reached the elevator, both Deddy and May met a familiar face. “Good job, you two”, a handsome, blonde-haired receptionist greeted with a smile, “The guild master is waiting for you in his office.” Deddy and May nodded in acknowledgement before stepping inside the elevator.
After stepping outside the elevator, Deddy and May immediately headed toward the guild master’s office. Once they were inside, they saw their guild master, Alexandro, sitting on his chair, sipping on a bottle of carbonated water. “Good job, you two”, Alexandro replied while crossing his legs. “Thank you, guild master”, May slightly bowed. “So, what have you found?” Alexandro said as he stood up from his chair. “Here you go”, Deddy approached the guild master’s office table, placing a file on it. “Let me see”, Alexandro picked up the file from his office table. As Alexandro read the context of the file, his expression changed from frowning to joy in a second.
“This. I think we can use this”, Alexandro spoke with glee. “What’s in it, guild master?” May asked with curiosity in her eyes. Deddy sighed in exasperation, “It’s the list of people who mysteriously disappeared from Sylphid City, right?” May’s eyes widened, “What!?” she exclaimed. “Yeah”, Alexandro nodded, “Deddy is right. On this document are indeed the lists of people that mysteriously disappeared from Sylphid City,” Alexandro said, “However, there is clear evidence that your father is involved in all of this inside this document. We can use this to our advantage later.”
May lowered her head, “What do you think happened to those people, guild master?’ Alexandro’s expression turned ugly while Deddy turned his head away. “It is better that you don’t know”, Deddy said while gritting his teeth with a mixture of anger and shame. “Oh”, May let out a deep breath, “Then, what should we do next, guild master?” Alexandro crossed his arms while sitting back down on his chair, “For now, we wait for my wife to return. A triumphant return of my wife will be a painful blow to their plans. After that, we are going to have a meeting between us and our trusted allies. There, I will explain all of my plans to you.”

“Han Mei!” Han Jue shouted to her daughter, who was dealing with a humanoid monstrous creature. “Hyah!” Han Mei sent out an energy palm, causing a palm-sized hole in the humanoid monstrous creature’s chest. “I’m done here, dad” Han Mei smiled brightly at Han Jue. Suddenly, Han Jue felt someone pat his shoulder, “Hmm, your daughter’s not bad. I can see why our child liked her”, Rudy said with a teasing smirk. “Don’t tease me, big brother”, Han Jue sulked, “No matter who he is, he needs to defeat me if he wants to marry my daughter. Your son is of no exception.” Rudy grinned as he patted Han Jue’s back harder, “Of course, of course. One day my son will even surpass me and defeat you too. Until then, be a doting parent whenever you can.”
After saying that, Rudy proceeded to kill another humanoid monstrous creature near Anna. Han Jue sighed in exasperation as he watched Rudy fly away. “He has not changed a bit, right?” Barlog slightly raised his eyebrows at Han Jue. “I guess that’s big brother’s strongest and weakest point, I suppose” Han Jue shrugged his shoulders. “And that strength of his… I cannot fathom how can a guy as powerful as him ever existed” Han Jue crossed his arms. “I stopped pondering about that a long time ago”, Barlog slightly stretched his body, “You should try it too. It’ll release a huge burden on your shoulders. Trust me.” After saying that, Barlog brandished his fists inside of a humanoid monstrous creature’s chest.
“Tch”, Han Jue clicked his tongue, “But I still will not give up” he sulked before proceeding to kill a humanoid monstrous creature that was closing in on him. The party of five continued their casual chat while killing the humanoid monstrous creatures around them with ease. “Is that it?” Rudy sighed, “It’s boring. Can anybody provide me with a decent challenge nowadays?” he said while wiping the blood from his sword. Anna crouched down, examining the corpse of the humanoid monstrous creatures one by one. After a while, Anna furrowed her eyebrows, and her expression turned to that of disgust.
“What’s wrong, honey?” Rudy asked, approaching Anna after noticing her expression. “Take a look at this” Anna turned the corpse’s head towards her husband, “Does this seem familiar to you?” Rudy leaned forward, scrutinizing the humanoid monstrous creature’s head, “This is—” before Rudy managed to finish his sentence, Barlog, that stood behind him, interrupted. “The Demonic Cult”, Barlog said while frowning. “Is the Demonic Cult responsible for my wife’s murder?” Han Jue muttered softly with a hint of killing intent. “They could be”, Anna rubbed her chin, “And they could very well be cooperating with someone or some organization that wanted to take control of Gale.”
“How can you tell?” Han Jue furrowed his eyebrows. Anna shrugged her shoulders, “I just had a hunch. Besides, do you really think that the Demonic Cult would use such a blatant method as a civil war to take over the region? No, they would’ve done it in the dark, without anyone ever noticing.” Han Jue sighed, “You are right. This is not their way. So, we are dealing with another evil ancient organization, then?” Anna nodded, “Yes, and they had teamed up with the Demonic Cult. We must proceed with caution.”
