Chapter 238: Chapter 238
“Welcome back, Eru, Long”, Duncan spread his arms with a smile, “It must have been a tough journey for the both of you.” Then, Duncan turned his attention towards Meng Huo, “And who are you, esteemed guest? Are you Eru’s friend?” he asked. “More like I’m his subordinate. My name is Meng Huo” Meng Huo introduced himself while slightly bowing. “Oh”, Duncan quickly turned his head toward Aelgh, “And you, young lady?” Aelgh curtsey bowed, “It is an honour to meet you, senior Duncan. My name is Aelgh, Principal Helga’s personal disciple.” After hearing this, Duncan nearly jumped off his seat, “Principal Helga’s personal disciple?” Duncan exclaimed with his eyes opened wide.
“I-it’s a pleasure to meet you”, Duncan’s eyes were glistening, looking at Aelgh. Eru approached Sydney quietly, “What’s wrong with him?” he whispered. “Oh, Master Duncan always idolized Principal Helga. He always does his best to meet Principal Helga if possible”, Sydney softly said under her breath. “Ooh”, Eru said with a look of understanding. “Humph! What’s so great about that woman anyway….” Long grunted while crossing his arms. Eru smirked, “What, you’re jealous?” Long turned his head sideways, “Of course not. I just don’t understand how can a person goes head over heels for someone else”, Long said. “Yeah, like you’re one to talk”, Sydney snorted.
“Haha”, Eru scratched his chin as he watched Sydney and Long glare at each other. Duncan proceeded to have a small talk with Aelgh, asking the latter about Principal Helga and how it feels like to be her personal disciple. This made Eru laugh inside, ‘Little did Duncan know that the girl in front of him is Principal Helga herself,’ Eru thought inside of his head. Meanwhile, Aelgh was having a hard time answering the question Duncan threw at her. After a while, Rex, Sydney’s father, came inside the room, “Reporting, sir!” he saluted. Duncan straightened his posture immediately while Aelgh breathed a sigh of relief, “What’s wrong, Rex?” Duncan coughed before asking. “Our men are ready and able to move at any time”, Rex reported.
“Good”, Duncan nodded, “Have them on standby and ready at all times. But, be very careful not to alert anybody.” Rex saluted, “Yes, sir!” he said before leaving. After that, Duncan looked at Sydney, “How is the meeting with Alexandro?” he asked. “It’s good. We will hear more from him tomorrow. Until then, Alexandro told me that we need to prepare ourselves,” Sydney reported, “Oh, and he also left you a letter.” Sydney gave the letter to Duncan, which he skimmed shortly. “Good”, Duncan nodded before folding the letter in his hand. After that, Duncan looked at Sydney, “It’s getting late. Why don’t you escort our guests here to their room?” Sydney nodded, “Yes, sir”, then Sydney looked at Eru, Long, Meng Huo and Aelgh, “Will you all please follow me.”
Just as Eru was about to follow Sydney outside, Duncan stopped him, “Eru, can you please stay here with me for a while?” Duncan asked. “Sure”, Eru said, stopping himself from following Sydney. “Please, sit”, Duncan gestured with his hand. “What did you want to talk with me about?” Eru inquired. Duncan scrutinized the young man in front of him before smiling, “If I may be so bold, is your father’s name by any chance, Rudy?” he asked while leaning forward. “Hmm? You know my father?” Eru furrowed his eyebrows. Duncan’s eyebrows raised, “I knew it” he snapped his fingers. “Ever since I saw you, I knew you look familiar. I had my suspicion, but I did not think that you’re really Rudy’s son”, Duncan said with a smile.
“Ahem, sorry for going on for a tangent there”, Duncan coughed, “I knew your father a long time. He’s someone I owe a lot to.” Then, Duncan leaned back on his chair, “How is he, by the way? Your father?” Duncan asked. “And how are Anna, Evan and Angelica? Are they doing well?” he continued. “Uh, yeah, I think. I haven’t had contact with my family for a while now”, Eru said with a slightly saddened tone. “No, no, no. That would not do. Parents would worry if their child had not contacted them for a long time”; Duncan waved his hand, “Come, come. Follow me.” Eru could only shrug his shoulders before following Duncan to his residence. As he followed Duncan, Eru saw two familiar faces inside his home.
“Big brother!” Damian rushed towards Eru, hugging him immediately. “Welcome back!” Damian raised his head; his cute, little face radiated light that made Eru want to pinch Damian’s cheek. And pinched Eru did, “I’m back. Have you been doing well, Damian?” Eru asked while moving his hands left and right. “Abu Abu Abu”, Damian wanted to speak, but since his cheek was pinched by Eru, he could not utter his sentence. Damian stared at Eru, and as tears started to form in Damian’s eyes, Eru let go of his cheek. “Owie, that hurts, big brother”, Damian said while rubbing his red cheek. “Sorry, sorry”, Eru smirked, “What are you going to tell me earlier?” he asked.
“Oh, oh. So, when big brother left, I and my mother—” Damian told Eru about his everyday life and what he was up to. “Alright, Damian. That is enough”, Diane said while picking Damian up. “But, mom”, Damian pouted. “Clearly, big brother Eru here have some business with father. Why don’t we let those two finish their business first” Diane persuaded. “Hmm”, Damian cutely rubbed his chin, “Okay”, he said with a bright face. “You’ll play with me later, right, big brother?” Damian asked with sparkly eyes. “Depends. If you’re a good boy and listen to your mom, I will see you later”, Eru said with a smile. “Okay, I’ll be a good boy”, Damian replied. “Good”, Eru rubbed Damian’s head, “Then, I got to go.”
“Bye, big brother!” Damian waved his tiny little hand inside of Diane’s embrace. “Haha. That kid always yearns for a big brother. I wonder what he’ll be like if he was a big brother himself,” Duncan muttered, “Right, follow me.” Duncan led Eru upstairs, right beside the dining room, and there was a double door. “Here we are. Come on in”, Duncan said as he used his two slightly larger hands to open the double door. “Whoa, what is this?” Eru asked with amazement. He saw a room with a large projector and what looked like a camera in each corner of the room. “This is the new prototype, state of the art communication device. They call this one video projection, and a room with video projection is called a video conference room”, Duncan explained with a hint of pride in his tone.
“Video conference room?” Eru exclaimed while still observing the room. “Uh-huh”, Duncan nodded, “This room allowed us to communicate with people halfway across the world, and it even displayed our image too. The only drawback to this is that the other party also needed to have one of this also”, Duncan explained. Then, Duncan walked into the projector and pressed a button, “Your parents should have one of these also in your house”, Duncan said as the projector turned on. “Really? How come I never know of this?” Eru slightly furrowed his eyebrows. “I’ll just send one of these a few weeks ago. Maybe you already left by then”, Duncan casually said while adjusting a crystal-like object on top of the projector.
“There”, Duncan smiled as the crystal-like object glowed blue. “Now, we just need to input Rudy’s device code—” Duncan rummaged through the book laid on the table. “It should be this”, Duncan input a code into the side of the projector. After that, the crystal-like object on top of the projector lit up even more, and the projector started to hum. “Got it!” Duncan exclaimed, “Now, we just need to wait until your parents answer the call.” However, after waiting for a few minutes, the projector still hummed with no sign of changing. “Uh, is this supposed to happen?” Eru asked. “No, no. Of course, not”, Duncan rapidly shook his head, “They just did not pick up, that’s all.”
“Hmm”, Eru crossed his arms while slightly tilting his head, “Let me ask you something.” Duncan furrowed his eyebrows, “Shoot”, he said. “Are any of this equipment need to be set up first?” Eru asked. “Of course they do”, Duncan nodded. “Well, maybe that’s the problem”, Eru scratched his head in embarrassment, “If you knew my father, would he be capable of setting this up?” Duncan sighed, “No, he would not. But, I know that Anna could set it up. After all, she did set up the state of the art training room I sent them before.” Eru’s eyes widened, “You’re the one that sent those?” Duncan nodded, “Yes, I did. But, apparently, it took her long to set up because Rudy forgot about it.”
Then, Eru and Duncan stared at each other before sighing all at the same time. “I’m so sorry”, Eru slightly bowed his head.
