Chapter 263: Chapter 263
“Are you sure this is where the Demonic Cult is hiding?” Duncan asked. “I am”, Alexandro nodded, “Although this place looks small, the report said that inside of this place, there is a wide, underground space enough to stash an entire army”, Alexandro said. “Hmm, okay, I trust you, guild master. Sydney”, Duncan called out. “Yes, master?” Sydney slightly bowed.
“Tell the men to get ready”, Duncan said. “Yes, sir”, Sydney said before turning her back. Alexandro was about to stop Sydney but decided not to in the end. Sydney drew her blade. She raised her blade up into the sky, “Men, are you ready for this?” she shouted. “Ou!” Duncan’s personal army replied loudly. Then, Sydney turned towards the hidden bunker before pointing her blade at it, “Everybody, charge!” Sydney yelled. “Oh, wait—” Alexandro wanted to stop Sydney; however, thanks to her speech, Duncan’s men were all charging inside the hidden barrack. Alexandro was taken aback by all of this. “Hah”, Alexandro sighed in exasperation, “Look at what you’ve done” Alexandro glared at Sydney.
Having realized what she’d just done, Sydney scratched her cheek, “Uhm, I am so sorry.” Duncan had his mouth agape, “S-Sydney, what the hell are you doing? Don’t just stand there; go inside with them! They need your help.” Sydney was slightly flustered as she nodded, “Yes, master”, she said before hurriedly chasing after her men. Alexandro massaged his forehead, “I’m sorry. I should’ve stopped her in time”, he sighed. “No, it’s all my fault, guild master. After all, I’m the one that told her to tell the men to get ready” Duncan clicked his tongue. “Well, what’s done is done. At least we’ve made a flashy entrance”, Alexandro smiled wryly. Suddenly, Alexandro and Duncan heard the sounds of battle. “That’s not good”, Duncan furrowed his eyebrows.
“Yeah. Let’s hurry inside”, Alexandro said with a grave tone. Then, Alexandro and Duncan proceeded to run inside the hidden barrack. Once inside, Alexandro and Duncan found Sydney and the rest of Duncan’s men fighting a squad of monstrous humanoid creatures. “Tch, this is the same as last time. Be careful, men! These guys are strong and annoying. Pair up, and don’t ever separate!” Sydney shouted while brandishing his aura-coated blade toward a monstrous humanoid creature beside her. “What the hell—” Duncan exclaimed. “Hah”, Alexandro sighed, “Yeah, I agree with what they said now. Hearing about them is not the same as seeing them with your own eyes”, he said as he watched the monstrous appearance of the enemies.
“Master Duncan, please go to a safe place”, Sydney said as she parried an attack by another humanoid, monstrous creature. “You underestimate me too much, Sydney”, Duncan smirked before his entire demeanour changed. Then, Duncan took out a pair of brass knuckles from his pocket. “It’s been a while, but I, the Solid Rock Duncan, is back in action”, Duncan said after hitting an approaching humanoid, monstrous creature. Duncan flared up his prowess, revealing his cyan-coloured aura. “All men, charge!” Duncan rallied. “Ou!” Duncan’s group of elite personal soldiers yelled as they watched their master punch an approaching humanoid, monstrous creature. “Whoa, I never knew that Duncan could fight like that”, Alexandro exclaimed.
“Heh, you underestimated Master Duncan”, Sydney proudly laughed. “Alright, since it has come to this, men!” Alexandro raised his hand. “Don’t lose out to Duncan’s men. All adventurers, charge!” Alexandro waved his hand forward as a purple-coloured aura burst out from within him. “Yeah! For freedom!” the adventurers behind Alexandro all yelled out loud. They rallied behind Alexandro as the latter jumped towards the middle of the fray. Soon enough, Alexandro’s forces and Duncan’s forces were able to rout the whole squad of the humanoid, monstrous creatures. “Phew, that was a good exercise”, Duncan said while wiping the sweat from his forehead. “Haha, I never knew you could fight like that, Duncan”, Alexandro commented.
“Well, after I grew up and had my son, Damian, I stopped fighting seriously and focused on my family and business. However, it looks like I’ve still got some fight in me”, Duncan said with a smile. “You’ve still got some fight? Damn, then I’ll shudder to think when you were at your peak” Alexandro slightly chuckled after looking at the pile of bodies Duncan left behind. “And those guys are not a pushover either. I suspect that there may be more of them left downstairs”, Alexandro said with squinted eyes. “Yeah, I suspect that too. But, killing more of these Demonic Cult scum never felt stale for me”, Duncan said; killing intent was burning inside of his eyes. “You hate them that much, huh?” Alexandro said with a wry smile.
“Oh, yes. Just like how you adventurers hate the mayor, I hate the Demonic Cult with every single bone in my body”, Duncan uttered while gritting his teeth. “Oh, my, what am I saying… We shouldn’t chat at times like this. We need to move on”, Duncan said. Alexandro just shook his head as he looked at the departing Duncan. Then, Duncan approached Sydney, “How many casualties?” he asked. “Among our fifty soldiers, there are two dead, five heavily wounded and two mildly wounded. The rest of us are fine, sir,” Sydney reported. Duncan slightly lowered his head, “Have the two that are mildly wounded escort the five heavily wounded soldiers back to the building. And inform Rex about the two deceased, make sure he compensates their families fairly”, Duncan said.
“Yes, sir”, Sydney saluted before leaving. Alexandro also did the same to the adventurers. Although Alexandro brought fewer men than Duncan, Alexandro’s forces received no death, and only three of them were heavily injured. Alexandro also did the same thing as Duncan. He sent the three heavily wounded adventurers back, with two other adventurers escorting them. Duncan approached Alexandro after sorting out his forces, “Shall we go down?’ Duncan asked. Alexandro looked at the door to the basement with an intense glare before nodding, “Sure. Leave a few of your men here for lookout”, Alexandro said. “My thoughts exactly”, Duncan said with a small smile. After that, Duncan left five of his men upstairs, while Alexandro also left three of the adventurers behind with Duncan’s private soldiers.
This time, Alexandro was leading the party, with Duncan and Sydney following close behind him. The spiral staircases were long and winded, making Alexandro quite frustrated. Thankfully, the spiral staircases were quite large, making his forces able to traverse through. After descending for a while, Alexandro finally came across the end of the spiral staircases. “Finally, there’s an end to these damn, long staircases. Ugh, my legs are sore. This is why I hate stairs”, Alexandro grumbled. Duncan and Sydney could only smile wryly at Alexandro’s remark. As they reached the bottom floor, Alexandro, Duncan, and Sydney found something incredibly disturbing. “What in the world is this!?” Duncan exclaimed while gritting his teeth. “Are those humans?” Sydney gasped.
“Yes, they are humans”, Alexandro furrowed his eyebrows. “Once again, what you heard and read is different from what you see. I heard of these from Deddy’s mouth, and I even read the reports from that fat bastard’s document. To think it is this terrifying”, Alexandro bit his lower lips while clenching his fist hard. “These glass tubes, and the green liquid inside them. They are turning humans into monstrers”, Sydney commented. Alexandro shook his head, “More likely, they are healing them. I reckon that the Demonic Cult merged humans with monsters first before they were put inside these green tubes.” Duncan growled with anger, “Grr, these damn shitty fuckers! How low can they go?” he said with anger.
“Oh, we are not low at all. In fact, in doing these, we are closer to the answer of the ultimate power”, said a resounding voice that echoed inside the whole room. “Who are you? Show yourself, you Demonic Cult scum!” Duncan barked. “Oh, my oh my. Temper, temper. I will show myself, but it will be when they have enough fun”, replied the voice. Then, Alexandro, Duncan and Sydney heard fingers snap. “Go on, my lovely pets. It is time to play”, said the voice playfully. After that, the green tubes all cracked, and the humanoid, monstrous creatures inside of them all came out. “There are exactly one hundred of these babies inside here. Good luck fending off all of them”, the voice said before stopping.
“Tch, this is bad. Men!” Duncan shouted. “Get into a defensive formation. Work together to fend off this crisis!” Duncan rallied. Alexandro smiled, “Adventurers! Join up with Duncan’s forces. Be sure to get out of this alive!” he shouted. “Ou!” both Duncan and Alexandro’s forces yelled in unison. Sydney stepped forward, “What are you doing, Sydney?” Duncan questioned, “Don’t be rash. We need teamwork in a situation like this”, he said. “I know, master Duncan. But, for me, it is best if I work alone. That’s my speciality after all” Sydney let out a smile before looking at the horde of humanoid, monstrous creatures. “Teacher Eru, give me strength”, Sydney muttered as she held her blade right on her chest. “Eruken, ha!” Sydney shouted before a massive amount of yellow-coloured aura burst out from within her.
“Now, who wants some!” Sydney let out a battle cry before charging towards the sea of humanoid, monstrous creatures in front of her.
