Chapter 32: Chapter 32
Duncan stood up, feeling refreshed after resting for a few hours. His wounds have healed, and he felt ready to advance further. Davida, too, has been prepared for some time while Diane played around with the small bunny she picked up a while ago. “You all ready?” the big man asked. Davida and Diane both nodded their heads, “Then, let’s go!”
The party departed after checking everything. They got into a flexible formation that’s able to cope with most bad situations, something that they clearly practised a lot before setting out into the distance. While all of them was vigilant about a potential threat, the little bunny was happily chewing on a biscuit while being tied to Diane’s hip.
The group travelled steadily, watching every move that they made and observing their surrounding. They walked in the massive hall for hours. Along the way, they encountered a variety of monsters. Goblin, hobgoblin, horned wolf, kobold, slime and even troll. With perfect teamwork, Duncan, Davida and Diane dealt with it swiftly. The little bunny viewed these monsters with disgust as it received another biscuit from Diane. It smiled happily before munching the biscuit with its mouth. The party’s mood lightens seeing the cute little bunny.
Eventually, they reached the room Eru was in previously, a large room with the yin and yang symbol painted on the floor. “What is this room?” Davida crouched down, touching the yin and yang symbol gently with her hands, “What symbol is this?” pondered Davida. She watched the black overlap with the white, but instead of colliding, they combined together, creating harmony.
Diane crouched down too, while the little bunny was still happily chewing on another biscuit. Duncan warily scanned the empty room before briefly relaxing. “I can feel a concentrated amount of energy in this room”, Diane said, frowning, “I wonder what this room was used for”, she rubbed her chin. “Good question Di. Maybe for meditation? The mana flowing in this room is really dense”, Davida added. They both stood up, walking around the symbol, discussing it as they go.
Duncan stood near the entrance, watching the two ladies talk; he shook his head, ‘There they go again. Their research mode is turned on. Although Diane may not show it, she’s just as much a research freak as the young miss. Her appearance is deceiving though’ he smirked. “Huh!?” Duncan suddenly noticed something. To the right of him, he could see a trace of a sword being used. He put aside his greatsword before crouching down, “It’s faint, but it’s definitely from a sword.” Duncan felt the traces with his hand, “It felt quite new” as a trained bodyguard, he knew a little bit of everything, which included tracing.
Duncan pondered something in his mind before turning his head around. Now that he looked at the room again with focused eyes, there were many sword marks left inside the room. Judging by how it was positioned, the sword mark was not for training. There’s something else that just occurred in this room. Duncan squinted his eyes, feeling something wasn’t quite right. Then he noticed something, the symbol below lights up, and the walls and roof were expanding right in front of his eyes.
“You two heads up!” Duncan barked. Hearing him, both Davida and Diane, being the experienced person they are, quickly jumped backwards before pulling out their staff. After a few seconds, something emerged from below the ground. A golem’s head slowly emerged, followed by its body, its arms and then, its legs. Seeing the golem, Duncan, Davida, Diane and even the little bunny flinched. Diane quickly released the binding from the little bunny, telling it to stay clear. The little bunny nodded cutely before hopping away to the entrance.
“Something’s different about the golem”, Duncan observed, squinting his eyes, “Its body were all chipped out. Did that kid do this?” he pondered. “Maybe, but be on your guard Duncan. The fact that the golem’s still moving was prove that Eru did not manage to finish it off”, Davida analyze, “Besides, it has possibilities that it could power up like before”. Duncan nodded, “Of course, young miss. If it powered up, though, we don’t stand a chance.”
“That’s why we’ll finish it before it managed to powered up, right young miss?” Diane added. Davida nodded, “Right. We need to finish this quickly. Unfortunately, I only have one magic bomb in my pouch. If we could finish it without using the magic bomb, it would be ideal.” Both Diane and Duncan nodded their head. “Let’s go! Formation Alpha!” Davida shouted.
“Right!” Both Diane and Duncan replied at the same time. Duncan positioned himself right in front of the enemy while Diane stood behind him. Duncan used his aura to howl at the golem, provoking it. The provocation worked as the golem slowly brings its fist down, punching Duncan. Duncan dodges, leaving the golem to hit the ground. The golem’s fist created a small crater.
While all of that was going on, Davida ran to the side of the golem. She quickly chanted, and a magic circle formed in front of her. Fire elements gather right at the tip of Davida’s staff before it scatters behind her, forming a circle. “Fire Barrage!” she yelled, and dozen’s of fireballs appeared within the circle before rushing out, crashing into the golem’s body. Feeling the impact of the many fireballs hitting its body, the golem roared, switching its attention from Duncan to Davida.
Out of nowhere, a vine spurted from the ground, binding one of the golem’s legs, tripping the giant off balance. Duncan jumped; using his aura coated greatsword, he slashed towards the golem’s torso, making it finally fall down. With a boom, the golem was laid helpless down on the floor. Massive fire elements gather on top of the golem, “Taste my spell, 5th Circle extraordinaire, Super Fire Ball!” Davida shouted, a giant-sized fireball formed on top of the helpless golem. She swung her staff down, the giant-sized fireball followed, blasting the golem.
Davida quickly moved towards Diane and Duncan. Although the fight looked about to be finished, they did not let their guard down and assumed an advantageous fighting formation. “Did we do it?” Diane asked warily. Just after she spoke, the golem roared. It stood up, revealing its charred body. “Not yet, it seems,” Duncan said with a smile, “A couple more hits, I say, and it will go down.” Both Davida and Diane’s nodded, “Right!”
Duncan moved forward, howling using his aura at the now-charred golem, wanting to provoke the golem again. This time, the golem didn’t fall for his provocation and goes for the one deemed a more significant threat. It charges at Davida berserkly. Duncan tried hitting him with his aura, and Diane tried to stop it using her magic, but the golem ignored them all, persistently going for Davida.
“I guess there’s no way to finish this fight without using this” Davida took the magic bomb from her pocket. While David was pondering, the now-charred golem got ever so close towards her. Then, without hesitation, she cast a barrier around herself before swiftly throwing the magic bomb at the charging giant. “ROAR!” the golem roar as it got close to Davida. However, before it managed to get its hand on her, something hit it.
“Eat lead!” Davida said, jumping backwards while giving the golem her middle finger. The bomb exploded. A sphere formed from the explosion, sucking everything out, bringing the golem and its surroundings to dust. Duncan’s eyebrow twitched at his young miss antics. ‘Since when did the young miss act like that?’ Watching everything unfold the way she planned, Davida breathes a sigh of relief. She dusts herself off before asking Diane and Duncan if everything’s fine on their end.
“We’re alright young miss”, Duncan replied for the both of them. Diane looked at the remains of the bomb, “That’s a void bomb, right, young miss?” Diane asked. Davida nodded, “Yes. I planned on using this in case something like this happened. That golem really was too strong for us”, she explained, “I wanted to use it when we fought before, but I didn’t get the chance.”
The little bunny peaked at the door with its cute little head. After seeing that everything was over, it hopped back towards Diane. Diane crouched down, intending to pick up the little bunny. The little bunny tilted its head before extended its hand, its expressions smug. It seems to demands another biscuit from Diane. Seeing the smug expressions on the little bunny’s face, Diane felt irritated and tried smacking it in the head with a chop. The little bunny nimbly dodges Diane chop before extending its tongue, mocking Diane before running away.
“You little!” Diane chases the fleeing bunny in rage while Davida and Duncan chuckled on the side. Then, they noticed a door opened on the other side of the room while the room shrank to its previous size; even the traces of the void bomb were nowhere to be seen. Surprise filled Davida’s eyes, but she managed to endure her urges, before saying “We’ll rest for a moment. After we recover, we’ll continue,” Davida ordered, which Duncan nodded.
