Chapter 64: Chapter 64
“Looks like we had the winner, ladies and gentlemen. Give your applause to….” The smoke clear, revealing a bald muscle man carrying an unconscious highlander, “Give your applause to your winner, Boris the War-Bear Slayer”, the man in a fancy suit announced. The crowd went wild as Boris stepped out from the smoke. Boris put down the unconscious Sun Kuang to the ground, spreading his arms wide before roaring towards the audience.
The crowd went wild with cheers and applause while Boris pointed his finger towards the sky, “I’m number one, I’m number one”, he loudly declared. “Boris, Boris, Boris”, the crowd chanted Boris’s name until the latter left the arena. Then, after Boris left, the arena became full of smoke again as a towering pillar of rock emerged from the ground. The man in a fancy suit jumped from the special platform to the rock pillar in elegance, landing the jump while holding his top hat.
“What a first match, eh, ladies and gentlemen”, the man in a fancy suit said loudly, his voice sounding through the entire colosseum. “While we wait for the kind people from the colosseum to repair the arena, we’ll have a special performance from yours truly, me” the man in a fancy suit smiled brightly towards the audience. He snapped his fingers, then a legion of men and women wearing festive clothes appeared in the sky. Music began to play as the men and women began to dance alongside the music. Some among the crowd whistle. While some audience left their seat, either they went to the restroom or bought a snack.
Inside the west wing special waiting room, a young man with raven hair sat in a lotus position. If one were to look closely, the raven-coloured aura around him was visibly spiralling, encircling him. The young man expression looked serious; he gritted his teeth as his aura spiralled, whirling even faster. The young man opened his eyes; the amber from his pupil lights up as the raven-coloured aura get absorbed into the young man’s body. The young man breathes a sigh of relief, “Finally, I’m now a 2nd Grade Aura Master”, Eru said, smiling, feeling jubilant about himself.
The black sword on his lap buzzed; it vibrated happily, “Thank you, Buddy” Eru held the black sword with a smile on his face. Buddy vibrated again in Eru’s hand, “Yeah, I can rest somewhat easy fighting inside the competition now”, Eru replied. Sensing the level of the competition from round one earlier, Eru was worried that his prowess as a 1st Grade Aura Master wasn’t enough. Sure, Eru had a pure aura compared to his competitor, but his aura capacity was always a problem for Eru. For a while now, Eru could already break through to the 2nd Grade Aura Master thanks to the Demon King’s guidance. However, he held on.
Eru continued to purify and filter out his aura, making it stronger every single day. But, his method has its own disadvantages. The stronger his aura goes, the harder it is for Eru to break through to the next step; that’s why Eru was struggling earlier. The process 1st Grade Aura Master needed to break through to become a 2nd Grade Aura Master was to stimulate their aura in the middle of their body, spinning it inside, creating an Aura Core. This process imitated mages abilities to form a circle inside the area near their brains and monsters abilities to develop their mana core.
An Aura Core is the crystallization of one’s own aura. Every grade of Aura Master was divided by the size of their aura core. For example, 2nd Grade Aura Master has an aura core at the size of small marbles. Their aura core will continue to grow as they become stronger. Eru remembered that the Demon King once said that after a 5th Grade Aura Master, a special method was needed to break through to the next level. Eru shook his head, “I don’t have to worry about that yet”, he said while standing up slowly. Eru picked up the black sword, “Right, let us rest up for a while”, he said, feeling sore all over his body after breaking through earlier.

“Have you enjoyed your break, ladies and gentlemen?” the man in a fancy suit said with a broad smile on his face. “Let’s not make you wait longer, my lovely audience”, the man in a fancy suit twirled his body, disappearing from the rock pilar while the rock pillar crumbled. Then, the man in a fancy suit appeared inside the special platform above, “Without further ado, let’s begin round two!” The crowd erupted with cheers.
Just as the man in a fancy suit was about to speak, screeching sounds can be heard by him and the audience. Harpies came by the dozens, surrounding the colosseum with their terrifying appearance. Then, the dozens of harpies open a pathway. Three harpies fly by, bringing a chained crimson drake with them. The crimson drake roared at the same time the harpies screech. Instead of looking frightened, the audience was looking forward to the spectacle that was about to unfold before them. However, not everyone in the audience was calm. A young highlander stood in the audience stand, shivering in his boots. The highlander was a merchant who left his tribe at a young age; as a matter of fact, this was the first time the highlander had left Whirlwind Valley.
He did not know much about the outside world, but he was brilliant amongst his peers. The highlander was confident that he could survive the harsh outside world. He relied upon his wits so far in his travels, avoiding dangers on the road. When he was travelling, the young highlander heard of the Great Fighting Competition and was excited to watch. He rushed his travel to arrive on time, and wow, he sure wasn’t regretting his decision after watching the first round. “Brother, are we going to be okay?” the young highlander worriedly asked a middle-aged woman beside him.
The middle-aged woman chuckled, “This is your first time?” she asked the young highlander. “Yes. This is my first time watching Great Fighting Competition”, the young highlander replied. The middle-aged woman smiled at the young highlander, “Then you might not know. Every year of Great Fighting Competition, there will always be a monster or monsters attacking”, she explained. “Really?” the young highlander had his eyes widen. The middle-aged woman nodded, “Watch.”
The young highlander looked up to the sky; the man in a fancy suit floats in the sky, holding his top hat with his left hand and a cane in his right hand. The man in a fancy suit bowed; he gave a curtsey to the pack of harpies, “Good to see you guys come and watch”, the man in a fancy suit said with a sarcastic tone. The pack of harpies screeched while the chained up crimson drake roared. The man in a fancy suit blocked his left ear with his left hand while scratching the back of his head with his right hand.
“For goodness sake, you guys. Stop screeching. And you”, the man in a fancy suit pointed at the chained up crimson drake, “Your roar is annoying.” The man in a fancy suit walked forward in the air with swag, “So, when do we dance?” he said, smiling while extending his left hand forward. The harpies screeched, they rushed towards the man in a fancy suit one by one. The latter just smiled; he parried each attack of the harpies successfully with ease. “You naughty, naughty”, the man in a fancy suit smiled, teasing the harpies while hitting them with his cane.
Every time the man in a fancy suit hit the harpies with his cane, either they slammed towards the barrier before disintegrated, or they got crushed directly by his cane. The young highlander watched in awe as the man he thought was just an announcer previously was a powerhouse. The middle-aged woman saw the young highlander’s expression, “See? You don’t have to worry about anything. The colosseum was in good hands”, she said with a smile. The young highlander could only reply to the middle-aged woman with a nod.
The man in a fancy suit grinned, “Is that all you’ve got? Surely we can dance a little more.” The harpies seemed pissed; the three harpies beside the crimson drake screeched, killing intent arose within them. They then ordered the other harpies to kill the man in a fancy suit. “There you go, let’s dance even more”, the man in a fancy suit twirled his body mid-air; he landed on top of one harpy, grabbing its wings before tearing them apart with his bare hands. Then, he pointed his cane towards the harpies that were coming after him.
Red magic circle materialized in front of the cane, “Burn to ashes, Fire Blast”, the man in a fancy suit yelled; a cone made of fire burned the countless harpies in front of him, leaving only the three harpies and the crimson drake. The few Aura Master below in the audience stands looked up in awe. “That’s a mage?” a lot of them asked each other. “He’s amazing, isn’t he? Although he’s a mage, his physical prowess was not to be underestimated. So many monsters had been killed by his hand personally,” praised someone in the spectator stands, “As expected from the Phantasma.”
The man in a fancy suit bowed towards the three remaining harpies and the chained up crimson drake, “Now, shall we finish this?”
