Chapter 91: Chapter 91
“All of you, follow me out”, Eru barked, and the adventurer’s applicants followed behind him. “Wait”, Eru stopped suddenly. Looking at Ling, Eru opened his mouth, “I don’t know the building’s layout. Mind guiding me to the guild’s hall?” he asked. Ling shook her head in exasperation, “Sigh, fine….”
===
“Right, I’m going to introduce myself. My name is Eru, and I am your examinee for today”, Eru said, with his hands on his hips. “Hurry up already; we’ve been waiting for a long time”, said a complaining applicant. “Yeah. We waited a long time already. Just hurry up and begin already!” said another complaining applicant. Then, another complaining applicant followed suit, until eventually, most adventurer’s applicants there were complaining at Eru. Ling, meanwhile, stood right at the edge of the guild’s outdoor hall, smirking at Eru.
When Eru heard the complaints from the applicants, he began to feel irritated, ‘I’ve been listening to complaints all day from that young scholarly youth, and now these lots are complaining as well. I’m not having it.’ Eru took out Buddy from its sheath before blasting the ground with his aura, “Shut up!” he barked. The complaining adventurer’s applicant all shut their mouth when they saw Aura come out from Eru.
Ling whistled when she saw Eru’s aura, “Hah, the things said about him is true. A prodigy has appeared”, she said with a small grin on her face. “Now that everyone has gone quiet, I’m sorry that I’m late. I did not know that I would be an examiner, nor did I know that I would judge you guys. You guys can blame Ling for that”, Eru said, looking at Ling with sly eyes. All the adventurer’s applicant’s eyes went to Ling after hearing Eru’s words, causing Ling to flinch. “That being said, I don’t believe I’m qualified to be an examiner, but I’ll do my best since this is the task given to me by the guild master, isn’t that right, Ling?” Eru winked.
Then, one of the applicants raised her hand, “Excuse me, sir, but are you a full-fledged adventurer?” Eru hesitated before slightly nodding, “I believe so. If what Ling told me was true, I already become an adventurer a few months ago.” After hearing Eru, the female applicants replied, “Oh, oh. Is that so? Can I see your adventurer’s handbook?” Eru had to think for a while before finally clicking. He took out the handbook he received from Andre and showed it to the female applicants, “Is this what you’re talking about?”
The female applicant’s eyes turned bright, “Whoa. A real adventurer.” When the other applicants saw Eru’s handbook, the previously calm atmosphere turned noisy. Eru was dumbfounded, ‘Didn’t that girl in the inn say that adventurers were abundant in this territory?’ he turned his head at Ling. The latter just shook her head, signalling with her eyes to just go along. “Alright, settle down, peeps. Since this is my first time being an examinee, I’ll just do it according to what I’ve been through. First-round, a written test”, informed Eru as he held up his right index finger.
Then, Eru suddenly realized that he hadn’t prepared anything yet, “Is what I would’ve said if I prepared the questions beforehand. Let’s just skip to the combat test, shall we?” The adventurer’s applicants all nodded. “Right, we will split into a team of two. Choose your teammate, then form a line according to your team”, Eru ordered. After that, the applicants all scrambled around to find their teammates until, eventually, they all lined up in pairs. “Right, are your choices final?” Eru asked. “Yes, sir!” all the applicants replied simultaneously, causing echoes in the outdoor hall.
“Good”, Eru said before he stepped back and created a circle around himself. “Now, I want two teams to come forward when I said it, okay?” Eru asked. “Yes”, the applicants replied with passion burning in their eyes. “Now, you and you”, Eru pointed at two pairs of teams, “Stand facing opposite of each other inside the circle.” A pair of burly men, alongside a young man and a girl, stepped inside the circle. “Each team, face each other. This test is simple. You just had to knock the opposing team out from the circle, and your team won. The winning team is not guaranteed to get through, though, as it will be my final judgement. But, the winning team had a better chance to go through, so do your best to win”, Eru said with the adventurer’s applicants nodded in understanding.
“Are the four of you ready?” Eru shouted. “Ready!” the four replied. “Go!”
===
“Winner, this team!” Eru pointed at the team consisting of a young man and a girl. “Hah, hah, hah”, the young man and the girl both panted hard while the two burly men were down unconscious. “T-thank you for the match”, the girl said, bowing to her opponents. The young man, too, bowed before leaving the circle. Then, Eru easily picked up the two unconscious burly men before placing them down near Ling. “Why are you bringing them here?” Ling raised her eyebrow. “I’d figure you’ll take care of them”, Eru said as he walked back to his spot.
“Right, the next pair of teams that will go are…. You and you”, Eru pointed at another team. This time, three young men and a middle-aged man walked forward into the circle. “Are you guys ready?” Eru asked as all the applicants nodded, “Begin!”
===
Ling watched as the adventurer’s applicants fought each other pair by pair. She chuckled while crossing her arms on her chest, “Interesting…. Looks like that kid has definitely done this before”, she said while observing Eru. Then, Ling saw as Eru approached her, holding another pair of applicants on his shoulder. “Just put it there with the rest”, Ling pointed her finger. “Sure”, Eru gently let down the unconscious applicants on his shoulder together with the other unconscious applicants.
“Right, since you all won your match, congratulations, most of you pass this test”, Eru informed the remaining applicants.
“But!”
The remaining adventurer’s applicants that’s about to celebrate quietened. “Only two teams from the winning side did not pass, and respectively, there are two teams from the losing team did pass”, Eru informed. The atmosphere got tense. The adventurer’s applicants nervously waited as Eru opened his mouth. “You and you”, Eru pointed his finger towards a team with two middle-aged men and a team of a young man and a woman. “W-why?” the woman asked, stuttering.
“Yeah, why? Didn’t we prove that we’re good enough by winning?”
“Yeah, yeah.”
The four of them complained to Eru. “Want me to show you why?” Eru’s eyebrow raised, then he walked inside the circle with his hands behind his back. “Then, the four of you come at me at the same time. I’ll show you why”, Eru gestured with his hand. “You’ll regret that!” the middle-aged man said as the four of them brandished their weapons. “Charge!” one of the middle-aged men yelled as he charged at Eru.
Eru faced the four of them with a sly grin on his face. “Too many openings”, Eru said while smacking one of the middle-aged men in the back of his knee with his sheathed sword. “Argh”, the middle-aged man slumped to the ground, but another middle-aged man came out behind him. “Take this!” the middle-aged man throw some sort of a powder at Eru, slightly hampering the latter’s vision. “Too many cheap tricks”, Eru said once again while smacking the middle-aged man in the back of his neck with the pommel of his sheathed sword. Then, Eru sent the middle-aged man to the previous person, making a stack of bodies.
“You let your guard down!” yelled the young man as he jumped in the sky, trying to strike Eru down. Eru shook his head, “You’re too stupid.” Eru used his agility to easily avoid the young man before kicking him on his buttocks. “You’re mine!” the woman grinned. She used her whip sword to tried bind Eru down. However, Eru just chuckled. “And you, you’re delusional”, Eru said. He used his aura to block the whip sword before sending the woman flying with a flick of his hand.
“Aaaah” the woman screamed; she fell down atop the young man, making the stack even higher. Although Eru did a lot, in fact, it only took Eru a couple of seconds to easily dispatch the four of them. “And that’s that”, Eru dusted off his hands, “You four only managed to win by fluke. You two”, Eru pointed at the two middle-aged men. “You only managed to win by luck. Of course, luck is part of the game, but you can’t rely on it to survive out there. If only your elbow did not accidentally hit your opponent, then you would’ve lost”, Eru explained.
“And you two”, Eru pointed at the young man and the woman. “Yes, your might was superior to the other team, but there’s no strategy, no willingness and no seriousness. You both think that this was some sort of a game. You won’t survive long out there, and I’ll be damned if I let you pass”, Eru said with sternness in his voice. After he’s done, Eru looked at the remaining adventurer’s applicants, “Right, are you all ready for round two?”
