Chapter 95: Chapter 95
When Eru walked into the red bridge, Eru leaned at the red bridge’s handle, looking at the river. Suddenly, some unpleasant voice interrupted Eru’s serene moment, assaulting Eru’s ear. “Beautiful, isn’t it, brother Eru? Didn’t know that you liked to stroll around at this time”, a voice Eru would not hope to hear again could be heard by him, making Eru flinched. Eru turned his head around slowly. Eru found that the scholarly youth was standing right beside him. The scholarly youth held an umbrella while looking at Eru with sparkles in his eyes.
The scholarly youth leaned at the red bridge’s bar, copying Eru’s action with his empty hand. “H-hello”, Eru greeted the scholarly youth with a stutter in his voice. “So, how about it, brother Eru? Have you thought about what I’m saying before?” the scholarly youth asked with a gentle smile on his face. Eru rubbed his head, “I’m sorry, what are you saying before? I kind of forgot about it. Yesterday was a busy day for me.” The scholarly youth nodded; he seemed did not mind that Eru had forgotten.
“Then, let me say it again to you, brother Eru”, the scholarly youth said before explaining his situation again to Eru. Eru cringed on the inside, ‘No, please, don’t say it again,’ he thought in his head. The scholarly youth began his narrative about how the people in Tailwind City and many other places inside Gale Territory were backwards-minded, how they needed to change in order to not be left behind and how the Silvan Kingdom had neglected the Gale Territory. He rambled on and on, making it painful for Eru to hear. ‘Stop, please stop. It’s alright if you only talked about your hometown, but to even talk about the Silvan Kingdom as well…. You’re looking for trouble’, Eru thought in his head while showing an amiable smile on his face.
The young scholarly youth continued on his ramble until, eventually, the sun had already risen. Eru saw the sun then shook his head, “What rotten luck….” He mumbled. “Huh, what was that, brother Eru?” The young scholarly youth concernedly asked. “Uh, nothing, nothing. Since the sun had already risen, I’m going back to the inn to have my breakfast”, Eru said. “Let me accompany you, brother Eru”, the young scholarly youth suggested. Eru immediately waved his hand, “No, no, no. You don’t have to. I need to have a quick breakfast then go to the Adventurers Guild. I need to work, after all.”
The young scholarly youth had a complicated emotion on his face before nodding in understanding, “In that case, I shall see you tomorrow, brother Eru,” he bowed before leaving Eru alone. Eru watched as the young scholarly youth disappeared from his vision before heaving a sigh of relief, “Finally, he’s gone. My plan had gone in the mud now. Let’s go back to the inn for now. I need to eat after all that”, Eru grumbled as he moved his feet towards the inn.
When Eru arrived at the inn, Little Yu seemed to sense that a person was about to go to the inn. “Welcome to our inn, customer”, Little Yu greeted warmly. But, when she saw that it was just Eru, Little Yu shrugged her shoulders, “Oh, it’s just you.” Eru’s eyebrow twitched, “What do you mean, it’s just me!?” Little Yu let out her tongue, giggling at Eru, “Where did you go early in the morning?” Eru mood turned sour, “Don’t make me talk about it.” Little Yu slightly tilted her head, “It’s brother Long, isn’t it?” Eru sighed, “Just…. Please get me my breakfast. I’ll be on in the second room.”
Little Yu nodded, “Aye, aye, customer”, she skipped to the inn’s kitchen. “Boss, is the breakfast ready?” Little Yu asked loudly that even Eru could hear it outside. Eru climbed the stairs and sat at his favourite spot. Last night, Eru saw the quiet yet beautiful city alongside a beautiful moon, but now, he saw the bustling city going alive. “Tell the customer to wait. The breakfast is not ready yet!” Eru heard the loud voice of the inn’s boss from the second floor before he heard footsteps approaching him. “Here you go, customer. Your tea”, Little Yu said while putting down the teapot and the teacup on Eru’s table.
“Thank you”, Eru flashed a smile at Little Yu. “Your welcome”, Little Yu replied with a beaming smile on her own before leaving Eru alone. “Always nice to sip a tea early in the morning”, Eru smiled before sipping the tea from the teacup. “Ah, the tea in this inn is incredible. Even in my previous life, I never drank such delicious tea”, Eru exclaimed as he sipped another serving of tea. After waiting for half an hour, Eru heard footsteps climbing the stairs. “Customer, here’s your breakfast”, Little Yu said cheerily. Eru looked at the food on Little Yu’s tray and couldn’t help to salivate.
“For today breakfast, we had another noodle soup, two fried tofu, a chocolate dumpling and a nice steamed congee”, Little Yu listed one by one as she put down the food from her tray to Eru’s table. “Thank you, Little Yu”, Eru thanked Little Yu once again before watching her leave. Eru took his chopstick up, “Thanks for the food”, he gobbled the food in front of him until there was nothing left. After finishing his food clean, Eru stood up, rubbing his belly; he climbed down the stairs before leaving. He did not forget to say goodbye to Little Yu before leaving, to which Little Yu replied by her usual trade of smiling brightly and warmly.
On the way to the Adventurers Guild, Eru suddenly felt sick. “Why did I have to finish my food so quickly? Urgh, I’m too dumb sometimes”, Eru murmured. He rubbed his belly and shook his head. Eru did not look forward to meeting with Ling again after the dangerous glares coming from her eyes yesterday. Shivers ran through Eru’s back, and the back of his neck was drenched with sweat. “Damnit, out from a lion’s jaw and into a dragon’s pit. How unlucky am I?” Eru shook his head. Before long, Eru arrived right in front of the Adventurers Guild’s entrance.
Eru took a deep breath, “You can do this, you can do this, you can….” Before Eru finished encouraging himself, the door to the Adventurers Guild’s entrance was opened. “Good, you’re here. Come inside; your second task is waiting”, a woman voice emerged from the other side of the door. This woman was the one Eru dreaded to meet. Someone that stared at Eru with burning, perverted eyes. Yes, this woman was, of course, the receptionist and the guild master of Tailwind City’s Adventurers Guild branch, Ling. “Y-yes, ma’am,” said Eru weakly as he followed the voice inside before the door was closed down.

Inside the Adventurers Guild’s building, precisely its corridor, Eru was walking behind Ling, following her from a distance. “Tch, tch, tch”, Ling clicked her tongue three times while shaking her head, “You know, you gave me a lot of trouble yesterday.” Eru prayed in his heart, ‘Here it comes,’ Eru thought. “After that, I thought I’m going to fail your pilgrimage”, Ling paused, “Then a sudden realization hit me. Why don’t I give him a second chance? After all, adventurers pilgrimage does not happen often.” Eru raised his eyebrow, “And?” he asked.
Ling chuckled; she got quiet as she led Eru into a room. “Come in”, Ling gestured. The door opened, and Eru saw the inside of a room. “This here is the guild’s meeting room. And this person is someone that’s requesting our help”, Ling explained. “Hello”, the middle-aged man with grey hair and beard greeted. “Hello”, Eru greeted back. “Please, have a seat”, Ling gestured to Eru to sit across the middle-aged man. Then, Ling sat beside Eru, snuggling her seat closer to the latter. Eru shivered before focusing his attention on the middle-aged man, “I understand that you requested something of me?” Eru asked. The middle-aged man looked at Ling for a brief second. Seeing Ling nods of approval, the middle-aged man opened his mouth, “It’s like this, I no, we need help protecting our village”, the middle-aged man said somberly yet with hesitation.
Seeing the middle-aged man reaction, Eru chuckled internally, “Before that, could you please introduce yourself? My name is Eru, I’m 17 right now, but I should be 18 this year. Despite my age, I’m a 3rd Grade Aura Master. Nice to meet you.” Eru understood that one needed to quote on quote, sell yourself, and make the other party believe and put their trust in you in this situation. Then, as if to strengthen his introduction even more, Eru flared up his aura. Raven-coloured aura came out from within Eru, creating a spiral around him, emitting pressure appropriate to a 3rd Grade Aura Master.
The grey-haired, grey-beard middle-aged man gawked at the young man in front of him. Then, his looks of astonishment turned to delight as he saw Eru was smiling towards him. “Now, can you tell me what’s your request?”
