Chapter 78: 78. SPECIAL MISSION
Hurling the body of a tier 2 bear to the side, Noah glanced at his surroundings with a boredom-filled expression. He had never thought the event would be as boring as he currently experienced it.
He wasn’t too sure whether it was because of his strength, or simply because the whole objective of the stage was very monotonous.
“Alright, let’s set camp here,” Noah’s voice rang out a few seconds later, those who also had bored expressions simply did as he said.
This was the second night of the first stage, which meant the next day would be the last. Noah had never been so happy.
At this point, he practically longed for the stage to end, or for something eventful to happen. Shooting a gaze at the figure of Matthias and Lilia, Noah shook his head, the team of two hadn’t done much apart from stealing a bit of their kills.
But Noah wasn’t angry about that, after all his team was currently placed third with over six thousand points gained, so he could share a little.
“What should we have for dinner tonight,” Kayla asked with a yawn. Everyone glanced at Noah, who sighed, while pointing at the dead bears on the ground, “We’ll have them tonight,” he said.
They all nodded and went on to chop the dead bears into consumable sizes. Finding a good spot to sit, Noah stared at the sky. The inscriptions up in the air obstructed the moonlight a bit, but the sky remained beautiful.
The past day had been less stressful than the first, the surprises of the beasts weren’t that much, just them being very fast, but not nearly as fast as Noah, he wasn’t sure how that was possible, but it was.
During their journey of sorts, they encountered a stream, which was the first small body of water Noah had encountered in Creagar, the stream shone with the blue glow of Mana, and Noah realized that the stream was more like a mana potion, only that according to his teammates if one drank directly from it they would most likely die.
In order to drink the water, they had to separate it into a container, then waited a bit more than an hour for it to lose its small Mana concentration.
Heaving a deep sigh, Noah continued to stare at the sky. He usually tried to forget about the countdown of the bracelet, but he simply couldn’t.
Every single day that passed drew him closer to the day he would be revealed back to the world.
They eventually ate, then took turns to guard the group, Noah starting the shift first, then Mark second.
_ _
Morning came eventually, and the group had to move out again. They continued like this, nothing much happening for hours. But that all changed when the inscriptions in the sky lit up brightly.
“There have been a few additions to the magical beast in the forest. The rules are still the same. Good luck,” The voice of Elder Malachi spread in the whole forest, as all participants were alerted.
It didn’t take a few seconds later, until an explosion resounded, followed by a massive screeching sound, then an evil aura spread In the entire forest, as this addition or so emerged into the limelight.
Noah’s instincts screamed at him to get out of the whole forest, but he couldn’t, he had to succeed in the stage.
His group waited for a few minutes, the aura permeating the environment increasing in intensity, then the additions revealed themselves.
Noah stared at the eight figures with an expression mixed with disgust and horror.
The beasts or creatures, were thin in every aspect of their body except their head. Standing at a bit over 1 meter in height. Their eyes were black, and their growling mouths revealed jagged teeth.
They were ash pale in complexion, and a black aura escaped their bodies. Noah realized that the ground they stood on decayed. The creatures resembled aliens from comics
He instinctively took a step back, the sight of these monsters being a bit overwhelming. The monsters spread out surrounding the five, and Noah felt surprised. The creatures seemed intelligent, which brought their dangerousness to a new level.
There were seven in the middle stage and one in the lower stage, and they seemed intelligent enough to know their match, since the lower stage one went towards James, and continued growling, releasing a bucket’s worth of saliva.
Noah watched two of the monsters walk towards him, then he instinctively inspected them.
[?????????]
[Tier 2]
[Level: 38]
[Chances of death 49%]
Shock filled Noah’s mind when he read their description, the beasts both had a 49 percent chance of killing him.
During his inspection, a distant scream resounded in the area, followed by more screams of pain, during that moment of distraction, the monster attacked.
The two beasts dashed forward to Noah, as their four-fingered hands, turned to sharp claws. The two monsters reached Noah at that point, both slashing at the same time.
Noah effectively dodged it by stepping backward, but surprise filled his mind when he saw black claw slashes flying through the air toward him.
Noah immediately cast energy armor, but it shattered immediately those black slashes touched them, even managing to get to Noah’s body.
Intense pain spread inside Noah’s mind. Glancing at his chest where the slashes met him, Noah watched with a pain-filled expression as his skin withered at a speed visible to the naked eye, but his healing fixed it a few seconds later, but during those short seconds, he had to dodge more slashes.
During that time, Noah found that the black slashes drained his vitality, and his chest was still healing even after the wound had completely closed.
“They are very dangerous!,” Noah shouted, “Don’t let their attacks touch you or you’ll die,” He added, dodging more of the black slashes.
His teammates heard him, and even more serious expressions appeared on their faces.
Noah brought out his staff at that point, he wasn’t sure if it would be able to handle the slashes, so he poured 100 points of Mana into a makeshift barrier of sorts thinly wrapped around the staff.
Spinning the staff in front of him, Noah watched, as the staff managed to deflect the slashes, it seemed the monsters could only attack that way, so Noah decided to take the offensive. Taking a step forward, Noah’s eyes widened, while his instincts screamed at him.
Jumping backward, Noah watched in slow motion, a black tendril of sorts sprout out of his former position. He immediately wanted to inform his teammates, when a cry of agony spread out.
Noah snapped his head in the direction of the cry, a visibly withering Steve could be seen in a static position, while a black tendril wrapped around his legs.
Terror filled the team’s mind as they became weary of the ground, they couldn’t help but want to retreat.
Noah gritted his teeth, as he cast lightning Spears at the monsters in front of him, the Spears struck home, but after a second they disappeared, right after a black tendril had wrapped around the spears figure.
‘They can make spells wither too. What the heck is even going on,’ Noah shouted in his mind.
Tuning to lightning, Noah cast a lightning bolt. A magic circle expanded right in front of him, then a bolt of lightning the size of a bike shot out.
BOOOM!
An explosion resounded, then Noah used his control over the wind to clear the cloud of dust that rose.
A new wave of surprise spread through his mind when he saw that the monsters were still alive, though badly injured, and even healing. This was only possible for peak-stage beasts, but they weren’t.
Immediately casting seven lightning bolts in quick succession, Noah only relaxed when the system messages popped up.
An even bigger wave of surprise filled Noah’s mind when he found that he had leveled up once!
During that time of surprise, a voice spread in the area, “Oh..I didn’t expect that,” the voice sounded like two metals scraping each other, as it almost deafened them.
Noah immediately understood that whatever that talked about didn’t belong to his level of power
“Let’s see if you can handle this guy–” the unknown voice sounded again, but it was cut off before any other words could sound.
At this point Noah didn’t understand what was going on, it had only been a few minutes since the announcement, but one of his team members was dead.
Though before more thoughts on what was happening could form, an intense aura surged, as Noah directly made Muliix cover his arms, just for a split second.
BOOOOOOM!
Noah’s body was sent flying at the speed of a bullet. Crashing on a tree and directly bringing the tall thing down, Noah immediately made Muliix recede into his body while coughing a mouthful of blood.
Staring at the monster that had landed in his former position, Noah’s instincts ran mad at the sight of the creature in front of him.
The creature looked the same as the others, only towering over 3 meters in height, and radiated an aura in tier 2. Noah had never felt an aura so Intense at that level.
