There were three families that were founding families of the Han Kingdom.
These three families had all contributed to the founding of the Han Kingdom, supporting the first king in his conquest of the land.
As such, the status that these three families held in the Han Kingdom was almost equal to that of the royal family.
In some cases, they might even be equal to the royal family as long as the three families worked together.
That was why they had tried to get closer to each other.
The Duanmu Family had arranged a marriage with the Bei Family, one of the other founding families because they wanted to get closer with them. They wanted to unite their two founding families to take action against the royal family.
When Lin Fan heard this, it wasn’t just him who couldn’t help looking over at Duanmu Ming Xue. Yue Lan and Ming Xin both looked over at Duanmu Ming Xue as well, which made her lower her head a bit.
The way that they were looking at her made what they were implying clear and her reaction was more than enough of an answer.
The other things that Cai Ying reported were just general information about the Duanmu Family and the Han Kingdom. These were things that could have been easily found with just a single investigation.
There weren’t many things special about the Duanmu Family that was included in this report.
So everyone just turned to look at Duanmu Ming Xue and waited for her to speak.
It was hard for her to talk about this based on the expression that was on her face, so they all waited for her to finish gathering her thoughts on the matter.
After a long silence, Duanmu Ming Xue finally said, “It’s as you suspected, I was the one that was married off to the Bei Family.”
No one was surprised to hear this since this was what they had already deduced.
It wasn’t hard to figure that out since this was the one thing that was easy to figure out after hearing the story.
Now it was all about the details.
After another silence, Duanmu Ming Xue said with a sigh in a sad voice, “Bei Han, that’s the name of Xiao Yi’s father. He was one of the useless ones from the Bei Family’s younger generation that was used as a sacrifice like me, but unlike me, he acted like a prodigal until the very end.”
Emotions started filling her voice as she said, “I went along with it because I thought that I was doing the best for my family, but I saw them less as my family when they ignored everything that Bei Han did. I saw them for what they really were, nothing more than a bunch of blood sucking leeches who were using me without a care.”
In the end, she turned to look at Lin Fan to say, “I want to stay with you, I don’t want to go back to them.”
Lin Fan had no hesitation at all as he responded with a nod, “You are mine, of course no one is going to take you away.”
Then in a slower voice, he said, “But do you want to end this? If you don’t, then what about what Xiao Yi will think in the future?”
Duanmu Ming Xue trembled when she heard this since she knew that he was right.
She slowly looked up at him with a complicated look, but she didn’t say anything.
The way that she looked at him was almost as if she was trying to ask him to give her strength. Only Lin Fan didn’t say anything as he looked right into her eyes.
Eventually, Duanmu Ming Xue said, “Then what should we do?”
“I’ll go with you.” Lin Fan said in a simple manner.
There were no extra words or emotions, there was just support in his voice.
Duanmu Ming Xue looked at him with a surprised look before saying, “Are you sure? I know that there are still other things that need to be handled.”
“Nothing is more important.”
Though he said this in a firm tone, he still looked over at Yue Lan as if he was confirming this.
It was only when Yue Lan gave a nod that Lin Fan turned back to Duanmu Ming Xue with a firm look again.
There was a faint smile that appeared on Duanmu Ming Xue’s face when she saw this.
She raised her hand up to her eyes and with a single wipe, she revealed a strong look that was like the way that she acted normally before saying, “Before we deal with them, there are a few things that you have to know.”
Lin Fan and the others nodded before looking like they were ready to listen.
“What took so long?”
That was the first thing that Lin Fan heard the moment that he walked into the room.
The voice was filled with an arrogant tone that made it clear that the one in the room was looking down on him.
He just ignored it to look inside the room.
There were many things that were scattered around the room, showing that this person hadn’t been idle during this time.
The main thing he noticed was that there were quite a few bottles of wine that were here. There was also the smell of alcohol that filled the air.
After noticing all of this, Lin Fan narrowed his eyes to look at the person that had spoken.
Just his appearance alone was enough to show just what kind of person he was.
But he already had a good idea because of what Duanmu Ming Xue had told him.
Ignoring what that person said, Lin Fan calmly said, “I am the city lord of this Dungeon City, I heard that you were looking for me?”
“A city lord in the middle of nowhere dares to address me like this? Don’t you know who I am? I am Duanmu Tian Jue, the third master of the Duanmu Family! Why are you not kneeling in front of me?!”
As soon as Lin Fan spoke, this was the response that he received.
It was clear by the way that this person slurred his words a bit that he was already drunk from all the alcohol that he drank. At the same time, it seemed like this person wasn’t planning on giving him any face with the way that he spoke.
Without even waiting for a response from Lin Fan, Duanmu Tian Jue continued by saying, “Whatever, just bring that slut Duanmu Ming Xue over and that little spawn that she made. Once you do, I’ll take them and leave.”
Before he could even finish making this request, there was a crisp sound that rang out through the air.
“Slap!”
“Bweh!”
Duanmu Tian Jue flew through the air and slammed into the wall before landing face first on the ground.
He slowly raised his head with a confused look on his face as if he couldn’t understand what just happened, but then the pain hit him and he had no choice but to raise his hand to his face.
“Ah!” He screamed out in pain as he held his face as if supporting it.
After screaming like this for a bit, he finally looked up at Lin Fan who had his hand still raised out in a slapping motion.
He didn’t even get to finish these words as a foot fell down on him.
“Ah! Geh!” He screamed out in pain again, but his face was crushed into the ground which muffled his scream.
He actually got to say less than before as he was hit once more.
No matter how arrogantly Duanmu Tian Jue tried to act, all that happened was that he was beaten like a dog.
It was actually quite surprising how long that arrogance of his lasted, but eventually he had no choice but to put down that arrogance. After all, he had tried to fight back and he found that there was nothing that he could do.
No matter how he tried to stop Lin Fan from hitting him, he found that he wasn’t a match for him in terms of speed or strength. All he could do was let Lin Fan hit him, which was a large blow to his pride.
So in the end, Duanmu Tian Jue started begging like a dog.
“Please stop hitting me, let’s talk things out.”
“I promise, I’ll tell you whatever you want! Just stop hitting me!”
Only when his attitude changed did Lin Fan stop hitting him.
Without giving him a chance to say anything, Lin Fan said, “Tell me why the Duanmu Family has suddenly come looking for Ming Xue.”
Duanmu Tian Jue was surprised by this question since he didn’t expect Lin Fan to ask him this, but there was a trace of arrogance that slowly came back when he heard this.
The look in his eyes was as if he thought that he would be able to use this to his advantage.
It was just that Lin Fan didn’t miss this look.
The only answer that he got was another punch.
