“I might have made a mess of things.” Duanmu Ming Xue said with a soft sigh.
Lin Fan didn’t say anything as he looked at the way that she said this.
Though it looked like she was apologetic about what had happened, it also seemed as if there was a small part of her that enjoyed what happened. It was as if there was a small part of her that was happy to see that they got what they deserved and even wanted to do more.
In the end, Lin Fan didn’t push this matter since he knew that this was what she deserved.
After everything that happened, it would help her leave behind her resentment and move forward to a brighter future.
“Have you chosen who will be the next head of the Duanmu Family?” Instead of asking about that matter, Lin Fan chose to talk about this instead.
Duanmu Ming Xue gave a nod before telling him everything that she had seen in the Duanmu Family.
Lin Fan just silently gave a nod before saying, “Then when the time comes, we’ll do that.”
…
When the day came, the capital was completely abandoned.
It wasn’t that everyone ran away from the capital, but rather because there was an event that drew everyone out of the capital.
This was the event that all three of the founding families thought would be their opportunity to take over the Han Kingdom.
This event was a hunt.
It was a spirit beast hunt that was being arranged by the Han Royal Family, which was being held in honour of Lin Fan. It was to welcome Lin Fan, who was the envoy from the Mu Empire to their Han Kingdom.
While they didn’t know why King Han chose to host this hunt, they could most likely guess what it was.
It was most likely proposed by Lin Fan.
That was why he had visited them three days ago to tell them about this event.
When Lin Fan arrived with King Han, he could see that all of the members of the three founding families were gathered. The three family heads brought quite a few people with them, though the excuse was that they were here to participate in the hunt to show their support.
For those that didn’t know what was happening, it might seem like the three founding families and the royal family were becoming closer.
But in reality, those that knew already knew that something was going to happen today.
It was just too bad that it wasn’t what they expected.
As he looked at the three family heads, Lin Fan could see that there was something off about the Duanmu Family Head. With the way that he kept looking around, it was almost as if he was looking for something.
Lin Fan didn’t even need to think to know what he was looking for, but he had made sure to keep Duanmu Ming Xue away from this place today.
With what had happened, it was inevitable that there would be traces of doubt that the Duanmu Family Head would be holding.
That was just how it would be letting Duanmu Ming Xue interact with the Duanmu Family.
There was nothing that could be completely hidden in this world.
It was just that even if he had his doubts, it didn’t matter.
Even if he wanted to find Duanmu Ming Xue and test a few more things, it was already too late. The next time that he would see Duanmu Ming Xue, this entire matter would be over.
So Lin Fan wasn’t worried about the way that the Duanmu Family Head was acting.
King Han saw the way that Lin Fan looked at them and asked, “Are you worried about something?”
Lin Fan turned back with a faint smile and shook his head to say, “Nothing at all, I’m just thinking about a few things.”
King Han raised a brow to look at Lin Fan when he heard this, but seeing that Lin Fan didn’t say anything in response, he just calmly gave a nod. But the way that he was looking at Lin Fan made it very clear that he was worried about this.
Even if he thought that the plan that Lin Fan came up with would work, he couldn’t help being worried about the different things that might happen. After all, there was nothing that would be absolute in the world, there were all kinds of different things that could happen.
There was nothing that could guarantee that this would work out.
Which was why King Han was worried.
But Lin Fan wasn’t worried since he had already confirmed things with Greeny.
As long as they headed to the place that he wanted them to go to, it would all be over.
Once the carriage holding Lin Fan and King Han arrived, everyone immediately turned to look in their direction. Lin Fan came out first and King Han followed after him, showing the difference in status between them.
Even though King Han was the ruler of this Han Kingdom, he was still beneath Lin Fan who was the envoy from the Mu Empire.
However, it was still King Han who was in charge of this event.
“Everyone, we are gathered here to welcome our esteemed sir envoy from the Mu Empire to our Han Kingdom. I hope that everyone will do their best to ensure that sir envoy feels welcome today.”
King Han gave a speech, but no one was really listening.
They all looked like they had different ideas about how things were going to go.
It didn’t seem like anyone was even planning on hiding their intentions.
That was just how aware of the situation everyone was.
When King Han finished giving his introduction speech and declared that the hunt had started, Lin Fan went over to King Han and said, “Shall we go together?”
Though they didn’t look over, it was clear that everyone was paying attention to this.
After all, this was the opportunity that everyone was waiting for.
Lin Fan would bring King Han away from the main group and his guards since this was a hunt. Once he led King Han to the spot where they would ambush him, that was when this would be all over.
King Han gave a simple nod in response before waving his hand to send the soldiers away. It was only his private guards that went along with him.
Though there were still private guards, this was much better than usual.
That was why the experts from the three founding families had excited looks when they saw this happen. Then after looking at each other, they scattered into the forest, heading off in their own directions.
It didn’t seem like any of the three founding families were planning to work with each other.
It seemed like they were all heading off on their own.
That was because…Lin Fan had given them three separate locations.
He had split the three founding families away from each other so that they wouldn’t be able to help each other.
The reason they accepted this was because they had already seen a bit of his strength when he visited each of their families. The one that accepted this the most was the Duanmu Family who had seen the power of the Mimic Slime.
They knew about the super expert that was with Lin Fan, so they were the ones that felt the most assured that this plan would work.
After the experts of the three families scattered, Lin Fan turned to King Han and asked, “Shall we?”
King Han once again gave a simple nod before following Lin Fan into the forest.
Behind them were a few people that followed from a distance.
These were the scouts from the three founding families that were assigned to watch over them. Even if they knew that Lin Fan would bring King Han to the ambush location, they still wanted to keep an eye on King Han so they could be prepared for when the time came.
It was just that none of them noticed the others that were watching them.
They had no idea that they were actually the ones that were being watched.
King Han naturally didn’t miss this, so he leaned in and asked Lin Fan, “What about the tails?”
Lin Fan calmly looked at him and said, “What about them?”
King Han was taken aback when he heard this, as he didn’t understand what Lin Fan was referring to. But then he felt that something had changed about the way that they were being watched.
Instead of them being watched by the people following them, it was as if those people were actually keeping guard over them.
It was almost as if…they had suddenly switched sides.
“What did you do?” King Han asked in a confused voice.
However, instead of giving him an answer, Lin Fan just said, “Let’s prepare for the first fight, we’re almost there.”
King Han could see that they were getting closer to the first ambush area, so he gave a nod and gave the orders to his guards. However, he still looked at Lin Fan with a confused and questioning look, as if he wanted an answer to his question from earlier.
But Lin Fan didn’t say a single thing.
With the speed that they were traveling at, it seemed like they would enter the ambush area in just ten minutes.
“It’s time.” Lin Fan softly raised his sleeve and said this to the confusion of everyone else.
They had no idea who he was talking to.
